Formula One 2018 - General Thread

Well a wet first practice, the interesting thing is Force India have posted the fasted time powered by MB,I hope the second practice is a bit dryer MB were not too bothered about pushing on in the wet.

Can't read too much into it as track was drying. SV had a new gearbox and only managed a few laps. This afternoon should be a bit more interesting

Was a lot more interesting for Erickson.... :(

Must say I've never understood why the FIA allowed DRS in the first place, given that they banned moveable aerodynamics on safety grounds decades ago.

The FIA and F1 both want F1 to be the fastest 'proper' motorsport as that brings in the sponsors and their lovely money. The problem with this is every increase in speed makes overtaking more difficult, this in turn makes for boring racing and fewer people watching on television, which in turn is a problem for the advertisers and sponsors as they get less exposure. At the moment the requirement to be the fastest formula trumps the interesting racing faction, but for how long depends on the money providers and whether they feel they're getting value for that money.

As an aside, I'm a great believer in the theory that the easiest way to achieve more overtaking isn't Play Station overtake buttons like DRS, but by increasing braking distances however they want to achieve it. Right now that isn't going to happen because it conflicts with the fastest formula requirement.

Going to be hard work for LH tomorrow to get past both Ferraris that qualified ahead of him.
SV very unhappy that he ended up giving KR a tow that got him pole position.

And what a result for Williams.

Virtually last on the grid most the season. Happy for them. :)

I am not sure it will come to it but KR will have to let SV past if it gets near the end of the race, and he is still leading, all that said unlike Spa there is not much in it between the top 4 cars, this may be the best race of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see SV being first into the first chicane and merrily making his way down Curva Grande and away.

While Raikkkkonnnnennn has a strange aero fault that slows him down just a little in the corners but has no effect on the straights ;)

Bottas has been off the pace all weekend so won't be much help to LH.

Happy for Kimi, I really hope he gets an extension. Seb will no doubt have moaned back in the motor home and demanded Kimi helps him tomorrow.

There was also an incident with Alonso and Magnussen, neither got punished by the stewards but Magnussen made the comment 'I can't wait for Alonso to retire, he thinks he's God'. Well compared to you Kevin, he is.

Just an observation Bob.

Seb will always expect/demand assistance from his teammate. It’s just the way it is.

Lewis is happy to do the job alone.

Regarding KMag. Alonso said in the interview that he could never get through to Q3 but kmag could have.

So why did he overtake KMag???

On this occasion I think Alonso was in the wrong.

I haven't looked at the incident properly and it may well have been Alonso's fault but I don't think it is an appropriate thing to say about a fellow sportsman. He can slag him off to his heart's content off air but publicly, I think it was wrong of him. I know KMag doesn't give a damn though

From the TV footage that I saw Seb had all four wheels off the track on a couple of occasions, but no mention of a time being disallowed.

I think that not for the first time, Alonso was out of order. Not only that, considering how smart he's supposed to be, why get so close to the car in front and compromise himself into the first chicane. Doh!

I wouldn't want to be the steward in Monza that penalises a Ferrari for track limits. The rules should be applied equally, but of course.....
