Formula One 2018 - General Thread

Toto stated Ocon had 2 contracts on the table but then the teams 'didn't have the balls to stick with it'. He also stated he would not let Ocon go in a million years and that he had put forward the idea of 3 cars per team. Would suit the top teams but not the smaller ones.
From what Toto said, I think VB will be looking over his shoulder...

Epic!!
Well done Lewis. Just got to watch out for MV tomorrow ...

Especially at the first corners after the start - will Vercrashem do something stupid and put himself and LH out of the race??

You wonder if that hasn't been MV's baseline strategy from the start of his career: he now has a reputation that others have to be wary of. A bit like Senna who seldom backed out and would be 100% committed, relying on his competitor(s) to bail for any given racing confrontation.

I think MV could win the race tomorrow simply because LH and SV both cannot afford to get tangled up with him. There's no benefit in being the innocent party and failing to reach the chequered flag.

Seb won't do anything stupid as he knows he needs the points. MV however won't give a toss and will push his way around. Lewis needs a good start as in the past Ferrari have definitely started well off the line and Red Bull are good too.

That was a super lap from LH to get pole, but look how close MV was. He is a definite danger to Lewis for the first few laps in particular.
Shame Bottas couldn't get between Vettel and Lewis to help out.
SV will hopefully stuff it into the barriers on Lap 1:D

Ferrari usually manage 'miraculous' starts ;) which hopefully will put Vettel alongside Vercrashen going into turn 1.

I can't help wondering how far Hamilton had to turn up his engine for that lap, and how much he's taken out of it.

Looked to me like Lewis just hooked one up.

I hope the start is clean and doesn't unfairly influence the result of the race.

Indeed.

What concerns me is that even if all three get away cleanly then SV may end up paying the price for the lack of proper action from the F1 authorities over the last couple of years.

Hi Dryce, I may just be a bit slow at this time in the morning, but I honestly don’t get your point, could you expand it a bit?

I think he means that they would need to call in help from Ferrari International Assistance (FIA) to let SV win

Perez got off very lightly I reckon, if it were up to me he'd be watching the next two races from the garage.

Yes Perez was lucky. Ocon should have maybe backed out but Perez again didn't really try to avoid it. His swerve towards Sirotkin should have got him a ban.

TBH I don't think that version of FIA has been quite so applicable of late.

I’ll never get bored of hearing our national anthem on race day.
The question is, how long can the Mercedes/Hamilton reign of terror continue for ?

5, 6 world championships for Lewis, maybe 7 ?
Doesn’t look like he’s ever in a mood to give up.
