Fuel Consumption

PAUL R said:
I can get the consumption to 22mpg with a certain style of driving ,but not all the while, something will break, and if you want to keep forking out then thats OK>
You should have brought a ML 55 AMG.paid once and thrash it, you will only bend it not break it.

To get 22mpg from a diesel ML your foot must be planted for quiet a long time,IF you want speed don't expect a high mpg. Like wise if you want mpg do not expect speed. (From the ML range).

Good luck at the stealership.

First of all i do not trash my car. I also do not drive 0 to 60 in one week. I normally only give 1/2 or 3/4 gas. hardly ever floor it.. and only used the kick down maybe 3 times....

As for engine noise YES it is LOUD... compared to a E class and or S class... The S has full insulation around the engine so i guess yeah you would hear less...

I just can not understand how other people can get such a great mileage and also drive so (sporty?). My Seal Leon (130HP 300NM) Used round the 37 MPG.... Wondering Why Volkswagen are so bad in making engines.
I mean to say... The ML is nearly 900 KG heavier in weight and 4 wheel drive... and use that little fuel... Imagine what 270 would do in a C class ;-)

So i guess it must be me... having a car that is in 100% working order. And So thirsty...

22 - 23 MPG is what it does...

I bet I could get one down into the 20s :D ;)

That's more like it! :D

I thought the comparisons being made were between your ML 270 cdi and other ML's(270cdi)not cars from different manufacturers.(I did not realise the engine in a 270cdi was a volkswagen unit)

The phrase Thrash, was not to be taken seriously, and it was not a slur on your driving, just a generalisation.

Good luck.

My dads 52 plate e270cdi got 36mpg over 54,000 miles, his S320cdi is getting 33mpg so far and that is after 6,000 miles so I expect that to creep up a couple as he puts more miles on it. This is probably 75% motorway driving, so I would not expect any more than 25mpg from the ML.
When people say they are getting 30+, what sort of driving is it and how are they doing the calculation? I know my ML was reading 26 on the computer but it was only actually returning 22mpg so that was out.

Had the ML55 for 2 days last year and took that back with the computer reading 9mpg, so things could be worse ;)

Looking forward to what they will say ;-) But i think they will say "it all depends on your right foot

Queried the 22/23mpg that I am getting when I put the ML 270CD in for its first service and the reply was: "that's not unusual - fairly normal" :(

How do some folks manage 30mpg - I'll never know

I am such a twitt........ Do not laugh.... Since i am a american i kinda used the us gallon.. in stead of the uk..... this means that my 21MPG should be about 25 MPG UK....
