Hill start with Tip auto?

I thought ALL W211's had SBC-Hold, even right from the very begining??
We have to be careful how we answer this question but ALL UK imported S211's had it until the facelift and from 2003 the saloon had it.

The SBC options were never a World-wide feature on the 211 series and some countries had the very basic SBC (USA to name one)

S211 = estate
W211 = saloon

I nearly have my S-class estate :)

These answers are not right for a start you can only have SBC hold if the car has the code 423A new generation gear box, the 2002-2 , 211 and 230 did not get this box until early 03

Oi, :devil:
Show me ONE single pre face-lift S211 that does not have SBC Hold!

Early saloons never had SBC options and it is accepted that 2003 was the year it became a fitting for this vehicle. It would be foolhardy to give an exact date because folks will always beg to differ. Regarding coding, gearbox type etc. most folks will not have a clue what they have.

Its too complicated Sir John and not worth the hassle, tell you what though I have found out why the SBC hold was taken away.

As SBC stop does not replace the parking pawl or parking brake, in the event of a power failure it could no longer be guaranteed to work. :bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana:

I have SBC hold on my car, it does work a treat. I activate it when I have to stop as I believe when its activated the brake light deactivates, annoying him/her behind me less. However keep ones foot lightly on/over the pedal, as if you are rear ended it means your right foot wont be diveted to the accelerator pedal, potentially with dior consquences and in the event it fails, you can halt the car quickly.

Does it deactivate the brake light or is that just "wishful thinking"?

Was SBC Hold taken away as you said in the first line of your post? I thought is survived until the facelift. SBC stop did disappear in 2004.

Please don't get me wrong here because I'm not trying to start an argument but the explanation you give for the removal of SBC stop would be valid as a reason for removal of SBC Hold but as SBC Stop is intended to activate on the move the parking pawl is surely a bit of a red herring. I can understand that if there is a power failure when the car is on the move then SBC Stop might disengage and the car continue to roll forward.

Wishful thinking. I noticed how good the LED stop lights on the Avantgarde are at lighting the night time sky when sitting with SBC Hold engaged.

Its the same as the distronic on mine, when electronic braking is taking place the brake light does not come on, and only your foot on the pedal activates it. I have given thought on mine and wonder somtimes as my car is slowing down without brake lights, will I get shunted

Hold survived until the facelift. Stop went in the first cut-backs in the summer of 2004 :o

The USA never had either :)

Every so often a spelling mistake makes me chuckle. Of course you could be saying that Dior make the perfume you spray in the car that get rid of the smell that sometimes accompany dire consequences.;)

:D its the end of a tough day. Was never very good at spelling at school anyway :cool:

Computer won't brake as hard as the driver unless it's in BAS mode so it would be more like a gentle slow down, it would have to be a very stupid driver following to drive into you as they should notice they are gaining on your tail.

I would have thought power loss would only give you trouble if you where using Hold on a slope since your engine would give out at the same time the car would not propel itself anywhere unless gravity played a helping hand, since you should never use Hold unless your in the car the total loss of power and the sudden presence of motion should be enough to have you nail your foot to the pedal.

It needs someone with a more up to date program than I have. We know that MB have been taking away the stop function, I think that on mine it is just badly written, as the reason I put out are valid when the car is stationery.

John I re read the post 4 times just in case I could read that into it. then I had to post. :D:D the AMG packet is posted and have a nice day;)
I blame my disobedient typing fingers for not obeying the peanut sized brain:o :o Good spotting though.

THANK YOU very much for the badges and I'll let you know whern they arrive.

The W204 C320CDi has a one second (approximately) hold function, designed to hold the car facing up hill long enough to move foot from brake to accelerator.
