Hold Function on W212

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I'm not sure if my 2016 W212 has the hold function. I've tried the harder push of the brake pedal, and the quick double tap (just gives me whiplash).

Is there a clue in my data code list that would tell me definitively if my car has the feature or not?

Hmm... my 2013 W204 has the HOLD function.... so I would be very surprised if your 2016 car does not have it.

All modern Mercs have it.

With your foot held down on the brakepedal already, imagine someone has asked you to push the pedal through the floor. You will then see 'Hold' appear.

I have videoed mine, check below: 1:05

Hmm, I'm sure I tried that, I'll give the brake pedal a firmer push tomorrow. Thanks for the video, this is much simpler to understand rather than trying to decipher the owner's manual!

Brake the car to a stop as normal, when you have stopped press the brake pedal again and it will activate.

Yes it works well on the W212. Brake to a stop then ease up on the brake pedal a little and press again in a split second move. When the HOLD message displays you can then release the brake pedal (confirm the car does not move back in case of a malfunction of course) then foot on accelerator and drive away when ready. The HOLD function only works with car facing up hill so don't try it when facing downhill.
Mine works downhill, use it all the time on slip-roads, god this car is making me soft cant even be bothered to keep brake pressed lol.

It's not the easiest thing to explain - think of like a double-click on a mouse - but once you've found it a couple of times, you'll not want to be without it.

I first had it on a W211 in 2003 and have then really missed it when driving cars without.

On mine, I brake to a halt normally, and then once car has stopped, I give the brake pedal a further push before releasing it. As others have said, once you’ve got the knack it’s a great little feature

Do you mean the hold function works on the move, or are you talking about when queuing in stationary traffic on slip roads?

It only works when stationary to hold the car on a hill or on the flat without the need to keep your foot on the brake.

It stops you rolling backwards on hill starts, just touch the throttle when you want to go and you are off in a forward direction assuming you are not in reverse.

Did they take this away from 211's on facelift (2008)?

Hmmmm - will try it again. I have had it on previous 211's, but no sign of it on this car

Got it to work, although there is a definite knack to it! Pressing the pedal as hard as I could after coming to a stop didn't work for me.

Instead, I brake as normal until the car comes to a stop, then quickly release the brake pedal and then gently press it again.

It's a little hit and miss though, so will take some finessing. The look of confusion from the car behind as my brake lights were flickering on and off.

If you're not quick enough, when you release the brake pedal before pressing it again to activate the hold feature, the car can creep / jerk forward.

The noise the brake pedal makes when doing the second tap is very un-Mercedes-Benz too.

Not quite sure why it needs to be the way it is, on my Skoda Kodiaq you just need to press the brake pedal a little harder after the car comes to a stop to activate 'Auto Hold'. There is also a button to turn the feature off completely if preferred. Seamless.

I'm sure I'll get used to it. Thanks for all the advice.

No, once stopped at bottom but still on a downward slope i engage it so don't have to keep foot on brake :)

In my 212 I just come to a stop then keep my foot on the peddle and push it further down quite quickly and hold comes up on the dashboard.

ISTR the change at that time was away from the old SBC pump system to the new/current system.

There's no need to actually release the brake pedal.

If you brake normally to a halt you will naturally slightly lessen the brake pedal pressure just as the car comes to a stop. At that point, with the car stationery but without releasing the pedal, give it a quick further push and brake hold will activate.
