But it's only a face-off if YOU make it one. The comments I assume you are referring to are just that - comments, views, pretty lightweight stuff. It was actually YOUR comment that introduced the first note of aggression. Lighten up, dismiss the views you don't like and carry on. Simples...:D :D :D :D

Agression in my post? Seriously? Tongue in cheek may be, but agression? Definately not!

I'm a friend of MB Club member TDE1 and I confess to regularly travelling at 100mph in 30mph areas, in cars borrowed from my friends.

Getting back on topic, I took the C350 CDI up to just below an indicated 140mph on a German autobahn back in the summer. Felt very very stable and didn't have much difficulty getting there.

Of course being only a dual track road, I had to wait ages before a clear enough (in my opinion) stretch became available to do this and it didn't last long (because the truck drivers love to just pull out on you)

An indicated 145 from my remapped CLK 270 CDI.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using MBClub UK

A 5G would change up from second to third at around 90 mph.

So I have read ...

I think your cars second gear goes further than mine. Mines comfortably out of second well before 50mph.

The way I drive, its out of 2nd before 20mph, good for fuel consumption innit.

Have you dared to go 71mph yet in it. I heard its very dangerous and you should never go there unless you have lots of extensive driver training.

Never really felt the urge to max out any of my cars, I prefer to use my motorbikes if I want to go quickly - when touring abroad. As an aside, the flexibility of some bike engines is quite impressive. Being able to pull cleanly from 30mph to 180mph in top gear is a pretty reasonable trick.

A bike goes like there is nothing else, but I like my comforts. A bike would upset lunch!!!

What was this thread about again, all I can think about is lunch?

172mph at Vmax.

These cars in standard form have more in them than that though - wish the runway was longer!

:bannana:

Makes meeting thy maker that bit easier.

Nothing particularly memorable on the road, but the fastest I have driven was 176 mph in an XKR at the Gaydon Test Track. Next was 160 mph in an E55 at MIRA, and I think Mes D mustered 155 mph in the same car - she was just later on the power as we came out the 180-degree bowl.

I hear diesels every bloody morning when they start up!

I hear petrol cars late at night as young yobs go "cruising" in them. I heard a Subaru imprezza giving it hell in a 30 limited area late last night. The unmistakable sound of flat 4, louder than any diesel truck.

Anyway, the thing was screaming, I hoped it would meet with a large wall and stop, but sadly the 4wd system had more brains than the driver so it lives another day

LOL Jay!

I've had the Vito up to nearly 120 (unrestricted autobahn), which isn't bad for a diesel van. A bit more in the VW Sharan I had before that, which wasn't bad for a people carrier (albeit a V6 4Motion one) :)

162 at Brunters in the C43

156 in Europe.

I would have gone faster but I rainout of road. It had plenty left.

On a bike I did 172. Same problem though. Ran out of road

Yeeeeaaaaaaaas, but just sit back in wonder at how many decimal places you could calculate the MPG to if you had one...

Next hols...

My ambition currently is to do an indicated 200kph. A couple of hols ago, on one of those long wide open southern Spanish toll roads, with no one about, I did an indicated 197kph, but without thinking about it until later.
That was in a Mk1 Ford C Max. I now drive a 2012 B Class which should be easily capable of the 200kph.
My personal record was back in the 60's when it was 140mph round the Staines bypass! (MG B with several mods)
Never been on a track or even a runway (with intent).

Stupidly an Indicated 153 mph just after filtering onto the M25 coming from Guilford. A very nice man gave me a receipt to prove it and I had to go see another man with a very funny hair style so he could tell others how clever I was.

They even put it in the local paper and gave me a chauffeur for three months.

Lesson learnt.

Bloody Hell, Fred. You even converted it to LHD! Not letting you near my MB.

My fastest was at Vmax Starfire, but bottled it way before the car did .
