How much do you spend on gas each day?

Back to it, last weeks cold snap I used 90kw/day gas, 8.5kw/day electric, thats's over 8.5 days, this basically keeps one of the coldest rooms, the bedroom ticking over at 14C rising to 16.5 in the morning and evening.
The other rooms warm up as needed when the bedroom is on (hive heating)
I have 11 solar panels but last week was so foggy that gave us less than 1kw per day, friday was 4.6kw :)

The worst it got last year was 111kw/day in Dec and 117kw/day in Feb, 2020 was 106kw/day at the coldest time.
Everything I have done to bring the usage down seems to have worked well however its going to be a tad more expensive than last years monthly average of £39 electric and £31 gas.

This is for an big old detatched 1890 solid stone property stuck high up on top of a hill, no insulation with suspended ground floor over a cold cellar and a kitchen that was slapped on the side of the house in the 60's that may as well have no walls at all. Large old and cold noisey windows throughout and I still haven't put any curtain rails up in the lounge or kitchen diner- next job I think.
Was 18 rads, most are big double, I took out the 2 in the cellar and 1 from the lounge so now 15 in total.

So if your spending more than that on any modern house wether detched, semi or terrace, something is seriously wrong...

I need you to come and wave your magic wand at my house, that’s incredible for the type of property.

10 mins job , just did mine this morning .
Turn the boiler off , turn the isolation valves off either side of the unit .
Vent pressure to the magnet trap .
Either open the lid and remove the magnet and filter around the magnet to clean and replace , OR
drain the unit after removing the magnet so that you can top up with inhibitor .
Put everything back together , with some silicone grease on the cap rubber o ring (or replace it occasionally) . Open the isolation valves either side and bleed the air out the top vent .
Check for leaks
Reset boiler pressure if it need it .
Plenty on YouTube as well
Cheers, after reading this I was going to do it today but its not been done since at least 2018, if not 2016 so I'll grab a seal kit first and replace them at the same time...

His thermostat is wrong , it’s set at 1.6 ;)
Goung to open the windows...14.7 outside, 12.3 in the kitchen / diner, 6.7 in the cellar

Bristol on the coast ! It's pissing down but warm
That warm front is moving this way. Currently 2 deg C and the forecast has us at 12 deg C at midnight so it will increase by one degree per hour. I can’t ever recall the temperature ina reading dramatically overnight but it is forecast to tonight.

Our flue pipe comes out of the back of the stoveimage.jpg
It obviously depends how close it is to the flue pipe and how hot the burner is running.
I sit mine about 8-10 inches from the pipe so it draws air from it and above 180C it's like a hair dryer on low setting - definitely helps to move the heat in a different direction if you need to.
I have quite a shallow fire place so the burner sits in the room more and heat doesn't just go straight up the chimney area - if yours is the opposite it may help there too..

Makes a difference with a few extra degrees of heat in the air, think todays gas usage is almost free ;)

Would you mind me asking how much you pay per unit of gas and electricity?

It’s Octopus Std tariff gas 14.12 p per kWh - 4.22 p Gov subsidy +5% vat plus standi charge 25.56 per day, electricity is 45.35 per kWh - 17 p subsidy +5% vat plus 45.56 per day standing charge.

No idea without looking it up....but I pay £150 pay month for both fuels and am about £600 in credit. Pretty normal 3 bed house.

Last month gas £170 ish
Electric £80 ish
2 bed cottage
