I'm losing the battle to resist temptation

This engine is from a Sl60 on pistonheads http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/874321.htm

....but the SL that I saw with an identical looking engine was allegedly a 1997 model.

Did the air filter housing have a cut-out at the rear ? Those engines are equipped with the early CIS_KE injection....later M119s don't have the airbox cut-out as they run on LH system.

Could be an early model registered late in 1997 but if it's a 997 car it will be facelifted.

cheers

Maybe just had AMG filters retrofitted? The standard airbox is almost identical with Mercedes-Benz instead of AMG so unless you know what you're looking at M119s nearly all look the same.

You're not getting confused thinking it should have an M113 are you?

Oy - shhhhhhh.
I've got my eye on that........
Am struggling to resist the SL500 urge at the moment

I agree now is the time to get a late R129 for under £10k, one big bill would be the replacement CATs £1k plus, make sure this isnt on the horizon on the to do list on any forsale, or use it as a bargaining tool. when I get my wedding out the way I will be looking at a 500sl, 600sl or w124 e500. I fancy something with some proper poke as my e320 is only brisk IMHO

But I thought you were championing getting the slightly earlier quad cam model.

For your original budget, yes, but that car is £2k underpriced at least. Run it for a year and sell it for the same money if not more.

Surprisingly no-one has mentioned this beautiful and exceptionally rare R129 SL Brabus 6.9 litre V12:

The interior looks fantastic, stunning car overall. The price doesn't seem insanely high for such a car either IMHO.

It's deffo not worth buying. So specialised and has been checked out in the past. Been on the market since I can remember and they still can't shift it.

Whilst I agree that it would probably a financially safe bet, I generally keep my cars for a while and getting one with an interior that I dislike will really bug me.

I have time on my hands waiting for the right car for me as I'm in no particular rush anyway as my old W124 is running really sweet at the moment having worked through most of the niggles I had.

I hated the Silver Arrow interior until I owned it. The price of these cars will go up again when the economy stabilises so grab a bargain. No rule saying you have to keep a car forever - I swap every 12 months.

It's a shed.

It's been up for sale for as long as I can remember.

IIRC it's been mentioned on here beforehand, in which case I knew one of the previous owners. If it's been through his hands I wouldn't want to touch it with a bargepole. He was an idiot with vastly more money than sense (although he did let me borrow it for a week - when I was 18...told you so :D)
