Is the W205 a better looking car than the W204?

Reading another thread,and now seeing a few on the road,it struck me that looking at both models, the latest C63 isn't an improvement (externally only) to its predecessor.

OK, I accept that under the bonnet a big improvement has been made to the economy with the 4lt TT engine and the sound which almost everyone loves from the 6.2 hasn't been totally lost. Furthermore, the inside is a huge step up visually.
But its the look of the car externally that is letting it down in comparison.
Where are the aggressive looking flared arches and perfectly sculptured rear lights blending into the rear bumper? The cutouts in the lower front bumper gave the old car purpose and the headlight shape was just right.
I'm sure the W205 will grow, but until it does, the W204 for me was a masterpiece in design and one of the best looking small family cars ever made.

I'm not trying to upset the owners or potential owners of the new model, just making an observation that may be shared.

I have to say that new shape cars usually take quite a while to grow on me, but I really like the look of the new W205 and much prefer it to the previous W204. It's clearly a very personal thing, but the W204 shape has never really appealed to me other than in 'Black Series' guise, which totally transforms it.

I would even consider a 205 as a potential replacement for my beloved S211 E55 (in estate form of course!!), something I would never consider with the 204. That said I'm never going to replace my E55

I think you have a valid point.

In normal guise (non-AMG engine), I think the W205 is a better looking car. The more I see, the more I like them.

In AMG (engine) guise, the W204 seems the beefier and more aggressive car. The W205 is nice but maybe not as nice

I'm clearly in the minority according to the poll then, as I think the new W205 (talking non-AMG here, as my W204 isn't an AMG, so looks alone) is beautiful and way more upmarket than the 204, especially with the elegance/s-class grille you can't get in the UK model.

The more of these I see on the road, the more I feel my W204 is looking tired. I might upgrade the rear lights to facelift model to modern it up a bit.

Got a w205 sport as a courtesy car today I'm not fond of how it looks, think w204 shape looks better

I must say I love the new shape. The old one looks dated by today's standards. Just like the 3 Series is old hat too. However, most new car shapes take some getting used to. The more people see the more they seem to like them.

I think the W204 facelift is awesome... right amount of curves and sharp edges
The W205 is a bit soft and curvy, but i am sure they will grow on us when there are more around.
Still, NA 6.2l engine is the gem!

I think the S205 and W205 needs to be in AMG Line to make it look good - I would also say the estate looks better than the saloon

On both models colour makes all the difference IMO. Theres a permantly dirty 205 across the road from me in a navy blue colour with smallish looking wheels that looks just $hite ! Whilst others ive seen look really nice

If u compare like for like, W205 Edition 1 VS C63 507 edition I personally think the 204 looks much nicer.

A normal 204 C63 VS 205 C63 S Id potentially say the 205 looks nicer depending on the colour etc...

Id agree with this.

Being the owner of the 205 I am biased, but the side on image is a bit odd, almost looking like a Batmobile. All I can say is the car looks way way better in the 'flesh' than the pictures.

I am going to be completely one sided!! W205 gang all day! Hahaha! I think it is more refined, the body lines down the side and the mean looking front ( I have the amg line in black!) lights, rims and back lights all make it for me.. I was sold on the interior the minute I saw it! IMO of course
