Is worth buying a 07 E class with the launch of the new E class due in June July time

Hi Ian

Good to see you around again, I have just brought a W211 E500 albeit and earlier prefacelift car. The W211 is a very nice car, but personally I would try and go for the CLS.
The problem I find with the E-class is that there are so many about, a couple of times when I have been picking my wife up from work, I have had other people from her bank thinking I am a chauffeur.

The CLS on the other hand is a damn nice car and will look fresher for longer. If it wasnt for the need for 5 seats, I would have gone for the CLS.

The E class is a damn nice car too and cheaper to buy and more practical than a CLS. The CLS is sportier and IMHO slightly better appointed than a 211. The fact there are more 211's about gives the OP better selection of cars to choose from but I do get the chaffeur/taxi driver jibes, but when you have an E class who cares:rock:

Whats SBC?

Fancy electronically controlled braking system that MB put into the W211 and a couple of other models.

It uses a separate hydraulic pump and has its own battery system. The feedback you feel through the brake pedal is actually generated by the system as it is a 'brake by wire' system.

At various times it has had extra modes: Soft Stop where the system controls the final halt of the car to make it smoother when you brake gently, Stop where the system will brake automatically when you are in slow traffic based on you lifting off the accelerator, Hold where the system holds the car if you pulse the brake pedal when it is stopped - and releasese when you press the accelerator.

Only the last of these modes was consistently available in the various model years. And it is also provided through a different underlying mechanism in the facelifted W211.

I would guess that many customers are unaware of SBC until their dealer uses it as an explanation for higher brake servicing costs. From MB's perspective it has probably been expensive to support with various upgrades/recalls associated with it.

Personally I like it. But having not driven a facelift W211 I don't know what it's like to drive without it.

However a general bit of advice is that you do not want to stay close behind a W211 with SBC that decides to stop in a hurry.

Hello Fuzzer
Nice to see the regulars still here. Whats SBC?

What dryce said :)

New one is just as good. :)

The facelift just feels better to drive. I drove the facelift for 1000 odd miles and then jumped into the prefacelift and you could just tell the difference.

who knows :)

Hello Sean. Do you still have the AMG?
Yes seems like you have to be at the right place at the right time. I really don t want to pay over the odds.
Cheers
Ian

AMG gone .. sob!

Now have Boxster and 210 Estate runabout

good to see you back

Hi Chaps
Nice to see you guys are all still on the forum.

Anyway drove up to the Midlands at the weekend to visit the inlaws and to get a cheap pint. Saw a CLS at Birmingham and stopped off at Chesterfield to check out the E280 sport. Great toys in the E class but didn t feel great about it. Think its going to be the CLS. After looking again on the net at stealerships (rare private sellers) looks like Scotland is the place for a bargain.

Please could I ask if Command is worth the £1000+ premium? Does any one know if CLS come with xenon lights and cd changer as standard?

Cheers
Ian

Most CLS will have COMAND .. those that don't are hard to sell. But no doubt Alfie could help out on that if it's missing and it's a stonking deal.

Xenon's only standard on the AMG. CD Changer optional.
