Latest firmware Upgrade for 211 COMAND

Hi saorbust,

What year is your E320 and what version DVD are you going from.

I've just ordered the software update cd from the main dealer so will see if that helps me get from V.3 to V.6 (original but won't load!)

As I said on the 12th, my S211 went in today for the firmware u/g today. Not only do I now have permanent ETA on the map display but it didn't cost a bean... AND...the dealer put the v6.0 disc in the boot FOC as well. Aren't Merc dealers the best

I am having real problems getting my dealer to understand the issue of the TMC icons - they simply do not recognise it as an issue!!

My system is:

Head Unit software Rel 9.390 Build 17.04 part no W211 589 06 22 00(DAS printout states SW 15.2004)

Navi Processor software Rel 1.91 part no W220 589 04 2200 (DAS printout states SW 05.2006)

I actually bought the 2 disks above and installed them myself shortly after having the car

AGW SW 23.2004 (DAS printout)

Does the DAS printout indicate the software installed from the SW update disks or is this "firmware" I have never fully understood the difference.

Navigation disk is 5.1

I don't need to have the ETA on the front screen but would like the TMC icons (red/yellow cars) to display on the correct side of the road.

I have been to the dealers 3 times and rung MB - no definitive answers.

I know its only a minor issue, but when you spend £2k on teh COMAND and £250 plus on disks it should work properly

I'm staggered (as is a customer of mine) that this is such an issue with MB.

None of these problems exist on the COMAND units for A/B/C/CLK/ML/R class cars. Those have been fine in terms of icons, ETA and 40 mile 'drift' for some time now. It beggers belief that MB doesnt get this resolved quicker on their more expensive ranges.

The latest upgrade has now put the cars on the proper side of the road on my system, if that is any help.

Well I got the software update today and loaded it. Then my V.6 wouldn't load! Bugger......but then I tried loading a copy of V.5 and it worked.....and subsequently the V.6 loaded so I'm happy now.

Should add to this post btw, that I obviously have the update disc myself at home and now its been used, its useless. Now I'm sure that someone out there might like it - and in the spirit of the forum, I'm willing to post it to someone to update their system and save us all some cash. Only one condition - once you've updated your system you have to pass it on to the next person.

hi Dave,

Only just seen this. Its a 54 plate, 2005 model year, E320CDI. I have the V6 Nav DVD (I've usually been one of the first people on here to update - I started the TMC thread for V5 for example)

Update disc on offer

Thanks to Saorburst, I have the update disc here ready to pass on to someone. Just pm me and I'll forward it to you..on condition that you then pass it on to someone else.

I did the install last night with no problems, and it looks to have resolved the issue of the TMC cars being displayed on the wrong side of the road, aswell as showing ETA etc.

Just done the firmware update. Nothing changed apart from the phone and time to destination on show, can still enter when moving and dvd unchanged.

The current software release for the head unit is 21.090 (as you may have already spotted from other posts). MB Tamworth charged £11.59 including VAT. The spares technician let slip when he found the disk on the system that the cost to them was £6.97. It took me five minutes to convince them to order the CD for me as they were claiming it is a workshop item only.

Thanks to the guys on the forum for telling me about the upgrade and helping me know more about the subject than the dealer.

Having the ETA on the screen is an option with this upgrade (see glojo's post earlier in the thread) not compulsory.

New software for W211 COMAND to enable 3D view?

My dealer told me that Harman/Becker is developing a new software version for the W211 COMAND which is likely to include 3D view for the NAV and MAP screen (like in the new C and S) but they couldn't tell me when it would be available. They told me that it's a software update for the headunit and it has nothing to do with the MAP DVD in the trunk. Does anybody know when this new software will be out?

There have been countless rumours about this option and I suppose it would look pretty although I would much prefer better updates.

I'm afraid the bird's eye view might make the display update slow on an "old" navi HW which may not have graphics accelerators for that purpose. But one should always be able to select the normal mode.

This must be a very personal issue but on my cellphones I never use the bird's eye view even if it is supported. I'm sure other find it useful (not only something to show off) but I would rate other improvements more important (map database and navi functionality/usability).

The W211 Euro COMAND can play DVD so it probably already has the necessary graphics accelerators. But yes, I agree with you, the 3D view is a "nice to have" feature and there are other improvements they should consider first.
Btw, I heard this new feature will be available in next year's W211 (probably 1 year before W212 comes out). I guess they're pushing for this feature because other lower end MB's already have it.

How fast would you need to drive in 3D view so that the refresh was not fast enough ? A rough calculation tells me something like Mach2 at 6G.

The innovation is driven by Audi because the RNS-E already had 3D since 2004.
