Lenny's CLS 55 AMG

Some of you will know I sold up the c43 and my daily clk 430.
This car went up for sale out of the blue 8 miles from me....it was meant to be.

I've had it 6 weeks now ....just spent today giving the car a really good clean (outside)...inside is for another weekend.

Car has 75k and a FSH. 3 previous owner. It has a lovely spec too.
The car has had in the last 6k:

- gearbox service & diff oil changed
- upper arms, lower & upper balljoints
- Genuine discs and pads on all 4's
- a new generation key (it now has 3 keys)

So far I've done:

New valve cover gaskets & breathers resealed
New s/c Belt (MB)
New aux Belt (MB)
New MB coolant
A Service by my local specialist (Using MB filters and Mobil 1 oil)
New Bosch 010 IC Pump (waiting to be fitted)

The car is completely stock with the exception of the wheels which have been changed by a previous owner (they are gen wheels, believe off a CL63) and the after market grille (I have the original).

These photos were taken today after the big clean. Excuse my iphone photos

Lenny

Loads better, may i ask why you didn't go down the STAR route to lower it like mine?

Now you just need the shiny Laurel interior ;)

Looks great, wheels look so much better with the spacers.

cheers

Attended a local "cars and coffee" show on Sunday - very good selection of cars and very casual!

I cleaned her up nicely to attend - she now sits perfectly at therear as I raised it slightly

I found this arty farty filtered photo on a photographers website who was in attendance

Looks great Lenny.

You had a C55 before didn't you? How does it compare size and handling wise? Does it feel a much bigger car?

its so much car for the money, is it any different to the E55 underneath or is it just the looks?

Hi Grovsie

I lusted after a c55 for a long time and almost bought a members car however this came up locally

I had a c43 before hand so I know the size/feel of an AMG c-class

The CLS is a big car - you'll notice a big different and it won't feel just as nimble as a c-class however you do loose that sensation as times go on as the cars handle well

Refinement wise it's a big step up - the interiors are much more plush than a e55 with lots and lots of leather everywhere and a fantastic driving position where the dash is more upright

Not sure about underneath but they are different chassis - same drivetrain and engine as an e55

I really like the e55's and if you get the stance on them right they look gorgeous

But let me tell you this - the CLS is the "sexy" one between the two , people really do seem to love the shape of the w219 - as a consequence they seem to
Hold their value better and the market is all over the show

Both wil require some TLC no matter which one you buy due to age. And mileage etc

I know of a 600bhp eclass for sale if you want to PM me I'll send you the details - MSL has done al the modding including kleeman headers , pulley , map , heat exchanger etc

P

The cls is massive compared to a c class and feels much bigger, handling on twisties poor compared to a c class Amg.

Thanks Lenny, ah I got it wrong, but yeah I remember now you had a C43. The size puts me off and the bills, I really don't need a car that big.

Im leaning more towards something like a M135i although there ugly things lol.

I always think of the CLS, and the other big AMGs, as a euro muscle car, big comfy cruiser with a rocket under your right foot. They do handle well for a big car but light and sporty they aren't.

Ironically, I think they're actually better suited to our roads today than the smaller, chuckable cars as you often can't find anywhere you can keep up the speed to make them fun whereas you can always find somewhere to give it a quick squirt :)

A friend of mine had a 135i and loved it - the best car he has owned in his opinion as an all rounder (he's owned a lot of stuff in his time)
He had it remapped and a decat and it was brutal

He's since moved to a 235i which he loves also

Yeah as much as id love a C63, im supposed to be buying a house, almost did infact a few weeks ago, it just fell through at the last second, so dropping 25k on a C63 doesn't make much sense.

Might not even bother getting anything for a while not gonna rush it. Cant think of much else that floats my boat.

The M135i does seem to tick all the boxes, handles nicely, quick, especially with a map, nice interior and modern.

The CLS is a big car, but you can chuck it around easily. I find the power and size and weight go hand in hand almost. Immense fun and super comfortable and so easy to drive in almost any manner.

Little update

My secondary cats where in terrible shape - rattling under acceleration and small leaks

I decided to go for an X pipe but keep the resonator ; as this is my daily driver I wasn't sure if I wanted the aggressiveness of it removed

If I decide to do it too I can go back and get t taken out and stainless pipe
In , in its place !!

She sounds great - a little more bark than standard

Really pleased with the results :D

What he took out (exhaust paste had been applied recently by me on an attempt
To stop the cats rattling until he could get me
Booked in )

After :
