M156 vs m157 amg engines c63 e63 amg

Possibly you're right, but also possibly not as stupid as belittling everyone who doesn't share your inflated opinion of your old banger? MB didn't drop the M156 - eight years ago, was it - because it was the greatest thing since sliced bread...

Maybe I like living on the edge, and you like living in the past?

I don't have the need to belittle or insult anyone on here. I have a passion for a particular engine, like you have.

I've said it few times on here. The 156 gets rather negative comments on here, especially from members that have never owned a car with the 156 engine.

And I will say it again. Yes it's 20+ years old tech. But it still a wonderful engine. It's an engine with a lot of carracter. It's fun. It doesn't feel and run like an engine of its age. I'll leave it there. I'll park it up for the winter now😁

I don't have a passion for the M157, or any other engine for that matter, but I do like forced induction and sledgehammer low-end torque. I don't dispute that the M156 is also a good engine, but it's a high-revving engine that makes its big power well up the rev range, and that's not where I like it. The difference is like that between trainers and Chelsea boots; either does the job, so it's up to the individual which they prefer.

That said, if others who prefer the M156 make silly comments about the M113K or the M157, I may well respond....

You can't make silly comments on the 133k. As you know I have run one for near on 3 years. A superb engine. Never run a 157 but I imagine it to be 113k shove in the back but with even more power and tuning abilities. Ive experience the forced induction and it's a brilliant. I'm well happy with the power the 156 has in w212 armour. I've no aspirations to add to what is for me a very powerful enjoyable car/engine to drive. 😁

Without doubt the 156 is a special engine , I think whatever you drive, you'll adapt to it. Revving the 156 up to the red line really is an event to savour, it is hugely entertaining. I'm a definite fan. I always found the NA engine to put down the power more reliably than my c63s or rwd 5.5 212 e63 s. Okay that said an AWD E63 is another thing altogether, it's too damn fast and does shove you back in your seat, the 212 does that in the summer too but its AWD counter part can do it in 3.4 secs but the rwd version simply can't put the power down. If I could justify the insurance and road tax I'd have a 6.2 or 113k 211 and another car like I used to a few years ago.

When I've taken friends in each car I found the 6.2l so easy to kickdown without any effort and it is brilliant at perfect power delivery. My c63s wagon would scare the living daylights out of people as the tail end would be all over the place and as a passenger that's scary (doesnt help race mode has it in sport handling mode ) . The 212 scares them because they get flattened into the passenger seat and it takes off like a rocket ship. Each engine is full of character and special IMO

Just felt like jumping into this one, I daily drive an SL63 (R231) with a light tune 😎 &, it’s an absolute beast for cross country mile mashing, I average 30k PA, all weather, 80 mile commute

It’s super comfortable & devastatingly quick (except in the wet 😳) cross country, motorway & A roads & makes light work of roundabouts & most other cars and even motor bikes at anything over 50 MPH (Maybe the “light tune” is more aggressive than I let on)

I’ve daily driven 911’s (c2s / c4s) R8 (v10’s) v10 M5, RS6’s an can honestly say it’s by far the best all round package.

Not sure any of this is relevant to the m156 vs m157 discussion but the R231 M157 is an awesome much over looked machine

We really do need to settle scores. The winner across four rounds ought to settle things once and for all:

1. Dyno shoot out
2. Half-mile drag race
3. VMax run
4. Timed lap

The prize for the winner can be to go head-to-head with me in my Smart ForFour AMG Black Series Track Series by Brabus.

A sound off I'll be aiming for 😄

The M156 in my 2013 C63 was a truly glorious engine. Like all the greats, it had different characters at different parts of the rev range, not on/off boost, just different tones and snarls and characters. I would drive the car back to back with my V12 engined Ferraris and the M156 did not feel like it was in a lower league. Maybe lower in the same league, but fighting in the same category. That is absolutely remarkable for a mass produced engine from a big manufacturer that was shoved into something as relatively cheap as a C class. I miss that car.
I have limited experience of the M157 but remember it as a punchy, classy engine. The drawback of the M156 for me was that its character did not suit bigger bodied cars. In the S class it felt wrong to me, like a Ferrari V12 would have. Those cars need effortless V8s or maybe TT V12s. Just my view.
My new C63 is way faster than the old one. At full pelt, it's a lot of fun. I do still miss the buildup to the redline of the M156 when the occasion arises, but that's just the payoff for more punch and smoothness and better economy.

Have you driven an R172 SLK 55, with the M152? Mine has been, er, 'optimised, not remapped' (gearbox and engine) by MBS, and I think you'd like it.

How much for a short back and side?
