MB Website - Am I being thick???

I don't think i would ever buy a dark coloured car again , it used to break my heart to wash my azurite blue car and see all the scratches on it :(

I think the only interior colours to go for are anthracite black or palma grey, in my opinion (which doesn't mean much) blue and sand (beige) both look naff. I was going to go for anthracite so it wouldn't show the dark but really liked the palma grey car I saw as it felt so much more spacious.

It depends on what youre going to use the car for. I had sand on my old c class and it was great but showed the marks up on trim easilly etc. i would never order a sand colour if i had kids to mess it up but was fine for just me using the car :) . I used to think anthricite was the bees knees but having had it .. its quite bland and i think i will go for grey leather next time.

I had the same problem with my first MB, a Black 190E.

My second Azurite Blue E200 wasn't as bad.

Third was E280 in Brilliant Silver - Enough said

Tealite blue is nearly as good as Silver for not showing dirt or swirls etc.

Grey isn't much better for showing up the marks, it seems to show up everything but as I don't have kids and wash it every weekend its ok.

I've seen a couple of W211's in Sand and didn't like them, I haven't seen one with the blue trim yet.

The Green Black is a stunner. The first demo I had came in the colour with a black interior and that's when I fell in love with the car. I actually thought it was totally black until I caught a bit of green reflecting off an edge (do W211's have edges or just tight curves?).

I drive past a specialist car importer on the way home and they've had a delivery of what looks like a dozen or more E's (nearly all in Silver it has to be said) so I'll put them on my list for the weekend colour hunt.

I'll report back on my findings monday.

Andy

I think I went to about 4 different dealers trying to find different colour combinations, it was even harder then (in 2002) as there weren't many W211's around.

The blue trim is awful. Too much blue on the dash and everywhere.

On the subject of talking about colours if I buy another MERC it will have to be either Silver or Obsidian Black. That way if I'm lazy the Silver won't show up the dirt and scratches. The Black its hard work.....so my excuse will be....."Well I wash it every week...but u know its black and the dirt shows more easily" That should get me off the hook.

When its summer then thats another story...might even enjoy washing it....got the Zymol stuff ready to test when the car comes back from MB bodyshop.

But I think Tansanite blue is just as hard to clean as Black and when its dark most people think its Black....all my work colleagues thought it was black when we went out to Xmas party. I find that the red rear lights blend in with the blue and black colours

I want a E55 AMG next and kinda think i'd go for Obsidian Black again with the red interior or grey

It's Black I Tell Ya...

Result. Found the very red colour I was looking for at the very Garage that had the big delivery. It's a specialist sports car seller/importer as they've always got a stock of Ferarris, Porches, Lamborginis and they even had a Pagini Zonda for a while (not that I stare through their windows on the way home!).

Anyway, they've now got loads of unregistered W211s in stock for some reason and two of them are in that lurvley red. Both had Black interiors which looks georgous. A great combo. Couldn't get into the car though as the place is shut on Sundays and I didn'y fancy smashing the drivers window for a better look.

Still concerned it looks a bit 'dark' inside (yes I know it's black and supposed to, but all the same...) but I could forgive that for the rich warm look the combo has. I think I'm sold.

I've got another couple of weeks before my last formal test drive of the E22CDI before it's make your mind up time on colour, spec and placing the order at long last.

It's been an interesting six months looking at loads of cars (3 series, 5 series, Mondeos, X-Type (same thing with a posher suit) and the Audi Cab but I've always wanted the E class deep down. It's a complete car for me with only a small number of compromises which I can live with:

Manual box,
Part Leather,
Poor performance (compared to the beemer 320d/330d).

I can only hope Merc have improved on their 6-8 month lead time....
