Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

Every step now justifies the paint finish and colour choice. Such a pretty car. It's rare to see cars where they just look right from every angle.

Terry, a W114 Facebook group member, came up to have a look at the car and also get a quote from Jerry the trimmer and Matt the painter who did the car. It was reassuring to me to see a nice W114 (saloon) in good nick that was not a patch on mine in many ways.

It is a lovely colour, wait til the wheel trims go on, the car is flatted and polished and the interior goes in.

Windows, seals and trims taking a good while as they have to be right, otherwise you get wind noise, leaks and draughts. They all have to line up and fit correctly too. Colin, a fellow W114 owner, found replacement rubber weatherstrip for the rear windows that really seals well. So that is now in.

Then the garnish moulding on top.

The end result - the front window sits perfectly on the rear giving a perfect seal.

On with the front garnish strip - door needs to come in a bit.

Same on the other side.

Offside door tightened up and front windscreen trim fitted.

Much prefer your wheels to the Mexican Hat wheels, they suit the CE so much better.

Nothing good to report, car is leaving Project Shop on Monday to have the paint polished, and I will arrange for the remaining work elsewhere. The car has been booked in for mapping at Northampton Motorsports in early October. As I doubt I will have organised seatbelt replacement and vacuum seat locking by then, it will have to be transported as it will have no MOT.

I am looking in to replacing the seat vacuum system with solenoids, I know Druk has done this in his doors - any help welcome.

It has a vacuum system. I want to look at replacing the seat locking system with a solenoid one.

Fortunately only the seats need automatic locking, the doors are locked by key only (no central locking) and there is no lock on the petrol flap.

That's good news you could always parallel pair up the actuators to give them a bit more "oomph" if you had to buy 4 ?

Each seat currently works with bellows - they suck in the hooks that hold each seat side simultaneously. So I think twin actuators on each seat base will be necessary - one pointing each side.

I have electric C/L on the SL. Don't look so surprised. :D:D
I ran 1mm wires down the existing yellow vacuum pipes to solenoids gotten from Maplin. The whole is connected to a Laser remote locking/alarm but a 2way switch or relay wouldn't be too difficult to engineer.

Surprised? I'm shocked they aren't powered by mini-super-turbo-diesels! Saw a W114 conversion to OM606 with Dieselmeken pump and Scania turbo this week - very clean, helped by a liberal use of the cutting torch and a LHD set up! He's only aiming for 450bhp...

How do you latch your seats shut Mr R?

Tried to make some sense of the vacuum pipes before the carpets go in but got bored and fitted the wheel trims instead. A lovely willow green E type Mk2 shared the bodyshop, with a red Mustang being stripped for paint and a black 911 in the booth. Not a single metallic to be seen - in the shop. Brunnhilde is half way through a touch up, flat and polish before going 20 yards on for carpet fitting.

Lookin' Good Charles Vertical headlights and colour choice helps the car to stand out from todays "40 shades of Silver " modern Mercedes = "Classic" in the true sense of the word.

Now I need to work out how to get the rubber bumper strips on, they are a b ugger to do.

I think the classic look is improved with lower stance and bigger wheel trims too. There is a hint of modern in the mix!
