Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

Bit "confused.com" here Charles are you going back to vacuum seat back locking rather than solenoids after all?

ps stunning interior.:thumb:

Not yet sure Graeme, but with the pipes in place I can always use them for wiring.

That interior is beyond beautiful, perfect with the paint choice. It's a little different from how it used to look

When you took this on I never realised that you were going to make it like this. I run 6 cars, and each one is the best that I can make it, but this is special. New, and as it should have been day one. I'm normally against any deviation from the original but the low suits it so well

I too prefer original, but the look with the low is so much nicer, while the handling should also be a bit sharper. I didn't set off with this result in mind at the outset, but it became really clear really quickly that it was either do it properly or not at all, it wasn't in a state to be driven, and doing it well costs very little more than doing it badly.

Whoever recommended KHM to me deserves a mention, as the work they have done is exceptional and absolutely spot on original in look - the transmission tunnel carpet is original, the rest KHM. It is hard to tell except close up.

Interior mostly now in, lots of little chrome bits to be fitted, but all coming together nicely.

Rear seat fully in

Front seats were a b ugger to do, the mounting points had very moveable captive boltholes that kept doing a runner.

Door cards in the front too - starting to look rather lovely

Even more loveliness

Then the evening sun appeared to brighten proceedings

and by coincidence the Citroen SM had just come out of MB Bodywork after a respray (Matt has taken it over from Dan and renamed D&M with his initials). Stunning combination of 2 Megasquirted early 70s cars.

An interesting day. The rolling toad session has got it idling and driving well on light loads. What it has shown up though is that the car is idling perfectly at 35 deg advance, whereas the mapper would reasonably expect more like 10. At all stages of the map, the car is about 25 deg more advanced than he would expect. So one of three things are happening, ECU timing, Ford Edis timing or CPS location vs TDC. Having been up early my brain is currently scrambled, and as the system is MS, the mapper has no real idea. Typing this on my phone so will go into more detail later when home. Thoughts welcome!

Rolling toads seems somehow appropriate, in a Wind in the Willows way.

Thanks Graeme, I am tired after an early start and will apply my mind tomorrow, it does seem somewhat rum that it is such a large potential discrepancy but often that is a number of smaller ones. I watched as all the work was done and I am supremely doubtful the CPS is not in the right place, although your second link might be applicable. If it's one tooth out, that's 10 degrees (36 into 360) out.

There's a whole load of photos and vids, plus write up but I am flagging badly now.

Oh, and quite peculiarly, two units down from Northampton Motorsports there was a gold Citroen SM just like mine sitting outside. Chances of that?

A few remarks which may or may not be relevant?
First if memory serves correct we are talking MEGASQUIRT 2 EXTRA using WASTED SPARK via FORD 3coil EDIS using a 36-1 TRIGGER WHEEL . This should mean at TDC the sensor would line up with tooth 6 for a 6 cylinder engine [although that's not strictly necessary evidently ] In toothed wheel mode trigger angle/ offset is ignored and the angle used is the angle tooth #1 passes the sensor. typical for a 6cylinder would be at 50 degrees rotation. For wasted spark the number of coils is set to wasted spark.
As far as I can make out the ignition options and trigger wheel pages tell the Megasquirt how to interpret the signals its getting in relation to actual crankshaft position. Get these wrong and it will feed erroneous data to the ignition table- the static timing is still correct 10 degrees BTDC as determined by strobe but the Megasquirt gets it wrong when it does the display sums. The way to adjust it is 1. to determine which tooth on the wheel corresponds to TDC on cylinder no 1 [ one possible source of error] may not actually be tooth 6? --- in which case 2. you will have to adjust the tooth#1 angle from 50 degrees till the timing Megasquirt displays is the same as the strobe =10degrees. You could do this by trial and error by altering the Tooth#1 ANGLE [deg BTDC] slightly+/- to see if that reduces or increases the apparent discrepancy.
My best guess but difficult not actually being able to see the hardware or display in situ I could be wildly off .:dk:
Your best bet is probably to ask the guys at Extra efi for a work around??

Mapping session produced a complete change in engine characteristics, with a lot of tweaks needed.

When we got it started a few weeks back

Now how it runs (bonnet makes a slight difference but not a lot). It's not the most sonorous of engines but it's definitely not a tractor!
