Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

I might not have time tomorrow to post them though.

I've made some time.

Just back from D&M and I am currently seated at my dining table, on Cloud 9 somewhere over the moon.

It is looking fantastic. They have been working flat out on it (a 10 o'clock finish yesterday) and instead of B&Q value lacquer they've used the lacquer used by Aston Martin (D&M do carbon fibre spraying for them and McLaren). It needs flatting and polishing but what a transformation. I cannot speak too highly of Dan, Matt, Peter and Craig's work and quality on this!

Hundreds of photos, not the best day to take them as the light was all over the shop but a few for now.

In darker light the colour - appropriately 124 Arabergrau - is pretty dark (thanks Bramble for the photobomb)

In brighter light it's a much smokier colour, really very light

The engine bay - what a transformation!

As I remarked to Matt, if he hadn't broken his leg, and I had therefore gone ahead with the original plan of Beigegrau, this lovely colour would have been totally over-looked - so thanks to Bellow (again!) for making me think, and 74Merc who posted about the arab grey Pagoda for sale.

Dead chuffed.

That, I think, is a colour that will keep on giving.

Now, to put it all back together again!...

That looks lovely Charles. Can't wait to see it all together.

A few more

Just a note about the wheels - Trapperjohn very kindly lent me a set of 15 inch W124 wheels for the build so I could get mine refurbished. The offset on the rear wheels is so different (plus the inch wider wheel) that the only way they will not foul is to be reversed!

I collect the correct 15s (with new tyres) next week.

Talking of wheels....did the hubcaps get painted?

Not yet - some small stuff still to do, but the key task to get the car ready for mechanical work is done.

Billy (of whom you will hear more, he is the youngest of Simeon's staff and an absolute hoot) remarked upon seeing the colour that all the car needed was a gun turret and half tracks and I could conquer most of Europe.

Sinking to his level, here is one of the youngster imitating his namesake flowerpot man, complete with Weed, but no Ben.

a tribute to British craftsmanship

I really can't wait to see this car

Replacement compressor arrived so I'll get that set up and then crack on with the polishing of cam cover and trims. Lots to do!

Looks like he's sucking back on a strong one there one Charles?

I had wondered if that MG had moved you in certain ways.

The Pagoda for sale (after the Bellow suggestion) was emphatically the only reason, same interior colour made it easy.

If I'd wanted another inspiration, it's far closer to home, namely my Allard in Tudor Grey with red leather interior. It's why originally I didn't want a grey!

Gee that looks pretty close the MG inside, just needs a bit of brass.

Get my new compressor out of the box to find it has a shattered plastic wheel. So no using that until I know how Machine Mart deal with it.

This is dreary!
