Well, credit to Machine Mart so far - they emailed me at 9.45 in response to my complaint of yesterday apologising and stating that a replacement wheel had been ordered and should be on its way soon.

Back from D&M - I'd templated half the engine bay insulation in card and wanted to check the fit. I'd definitely over-sized it - the peril of tracing round something, then cutting it, but a good 3 mm haircut should do the job nicely.

Oh and I've asked Peter there to fabricate some wheel arch liners as there is not a cat chance in a hot place down below that I will do some properly!

By happy coincidence, the owner of the two VW splitties that Dan and Matt had restored, and which period colours had started me thinking about a flat colour many moons ago, was in at the same time as me to drop one off for a touch up. She loved the grey of my coupe!

Just back from picking up my refurbished wheels with new tyres.

Thats the back of an S124 if ever I saw one. Copious vehicle to say the least.

Well, turns out the compressor is missing the dipstick which acts as a seal to the engine. So unless I want to spray oil all over the shop, I can't use the compressor.

I gain the impression this is a returned item.

I'll just have to go back to using the electric drill pro-tem for polishing.

Can't you take it back to a store and swap it for a new one?

if polishing is the mission, would one of these be a better bet?

It's one sold centrally.

The replacement wheel arrived just now, so at least the aftercare is impressive.

It's not merely for polishing, it's for all my air tools etc.

Dipstick also just turned up. Well done customer services!

It does, although the sound was described by my neighbour as that of a cat being strangled. Alas, moving from a 300 litre 12 bar one to a 50 litre one is pretty noticeable!

Mercedes day up at Weston on the Green.

My bonnet - shame that lovely underside is going to be covered by soundproofing

The lads had an S63 AMG biturbo in for the alloys to be sprayed black. It's a serious bit of kit.

The 6 pot calipers were just teeny bit little larger than the 2 pots on my W114

Meanwhile Simeon had a super 280GE in for head work

With the most gorgeous Recaro interior

Early days yet, but there might be a ramp available at Simeon's between Christmas and the New Year for me to do some work on the coupe - getting all the interior rustproofed and the bulkhead sound and heat proofed plus a lot of tidying up.

I ran up there today. Dan was telling me the AM lacquer is about three times as expensive as the previously most expensive they've used, and it was brilliant to apply. It is now rock solid so he is going to do the flatting and polishing next week, as he wants to be certain of the best possible job. I learned in the chat that there are numerous grades of lacquer, the cheapest being like water, and with ages dries out and cracks.

A busy day polishing cam cover and trim. Had a small delivery from Germany too.
