An oem w210 avantgarde grill cut to fit the w202 frame, costs £35 (from ebay brand new) and 1.5hours of work. Well worth it though. Thanks for this thread http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=288&highlight=w210+grill

yes I agree, an excellent job.

was it a straighforward trim and fit?

No, it wasn't a straightforward fit, I had to cut some of the top and both sides. Just leave the bottom part as it is. Took me long time cause I haven't got dremel tool. I used hack saw instead.

Quality of the grill is first class, gloss black plastic frame (good on black cars) with metal chrome inserts (11 of them). Each chrome insert would cost you about £7 each from the dealer.

Now, shall I inform my insurance about this? :(

thanks.

Better than doing what I did, i.e. buy a terrible quality full grille off ebay, unfortunately very flimsy indeed.

Nice job indeed   :bannana:

Permit me the off topic drift?, its Friday!, and its been a bad week.

There's quite a choice now but Dremmel seem to be the best. I have a few including a battery powered B&D Versapac one with cigar shaped batteries. It surprising the uses you find for them once you have one. Mrs P insists I give her a pedicure once a month with the finest grade bobbins and buffers:D.

The car looks great. Have a nana :bannana:

Do you happen to know the part number for the one you bought.

I did look through the other thread but got a bit bogged down with part numbers, model numbers, facelift, pre-facelift.......

Mine is also a black W202 sport estate (1999) and doesn't look a patch on yours.

the W210 pre-facelift avantgarde grill is

A210 888 0123

but I think that's just a plastic mesh, no chrome.

Have you got a link to the ebay seller or the sellers eBay ID?
Ive not wanted to buy one on ebay as there have been so many posts about them being poor quality (some seller will call anything oem:crazy: ).

That's the part no at the back of my grill and I think as Shude said it's just the gloss plastic mesh/frame. You still need to get the 11 chrome strips (about £7 each) which insert into the mesh. Should cost about £130 everything from the dealer so better to get the w202 oem one which is about £160 unless you can get a cheap one like mine.

I got mine from this ebay seller (smokyq)
