Starting at 6.30 this morning, I set off for the rather delightful Bath. 400 mile round trip; here I come!
Travelled down in my friends 535d(which wasn't good for the spine, but it was very fast) and arrived at our destination about 9.45, calling for breakfast halfway.
I was greeted by the seller of the car, who was also the dealer principle for the commercial arm of a local Mercedes. Parked on the drive were a 2005 S203 220 CDi Avantgarde (which had 195,000 miles on the clock), a brand new S212 350 CDi Sport and then the reason why I was there- a 2005/55 S211 E320 CDi V6 Avantgarde 7 seater.
I had a good look around the car and everything seemed to be in order, took it out for a quick blast just to make sure all was in order (which it was).
We'd already agreed on a price before I left, so that there was no bartering when I got there.
He very kindly included a bluetooth adapter for the phone aswell!
Quick cup of tea while we sorted the paperwork out and then we were on the road!
Having been able to give it a good drive on the way home, I can only find one word to describe her; awesome!
I've had three 211s CDi previously with the 5 speed box, but this V6 engine and 7 speed box feel in a different league.
Whereas at kickdown the 5 speed box gives you a shove, this 7 speed feels more like a whoosh. It always feels as though it's in the correct gear, where the 5 speed could sometimes feel 'jumpy'.
Arrived in the most beautiful part of Yorkshire at about 2 P.M. rather relaxed due to the, as always, beautiful ride comfort of the 211.
Picked up my eldest lad from school and his face was a picture when he saw the rear TV, although he seemed more taken by the fact that 'someone has put seats in the boot, Dad'...
I've just spent the last hour having a look through the COMAND guide book and putting into order the TV channels, which are freeview.
I'll be giving her a good wash and polish on the weekend so I'll post some pictures up then (weather permitting).
I might even use the two bucket method....
It's been a while since I was privileged to drive one of these and I'm now contemplating whether to have another little drive tonight...
