My Search Has Come To An End....

Starting at 6.30 this morning, I set off for the rather delightful Bath. 400 mile round trip; here I come! :D

Travelled down in my friends 535d(which wasn't good for the spine, but it was very fast) and arrived at our destination about 9.45, calling for breakfast halfway.

I was greeted by the seller of the car, who was also the dealer principle for the commercial arm of a local Mercedes. Parked on the drive were a 2005 S203 220 CDi Avantgarde (which had 195,000 miles on the clock), a brand new S212 350 CDi Sport and then the reason why I was there- a 2005/55 S211 E320 CDi V6 Avantgarde 7 seater.

I had a good look around the car and everything seemed to be in order, took it out for a quick blast just to make sure all was in order (which it was).
We'd already agreed on a price before I left, so that there was no bartering when I got there.
He very kindly included a bluetooth adapter for the phone aswell!
Quick cup of tea while we sorted the paperwork out and then we were on the road!

Having been able to give it a good drive on the way home, I can only find one word to describe her; awesome!

I've had three 211s CDi previously with the 5 speed box, but this V6 engine and 7 speed box feel in a different league.
Whereas at kickdown the 5 speed box gives you a shove, this 7 speed feels more like a whoosh. It always feels as though it's in the correct gear, where the 5 speed could sometimes feel 'jumpy'.

Arrived in the most beautiful part of Yorkshire at about 2 P.M. rather relaxed due to the, as always, beautiful ride comfort of the 211.
Picked up my eldest lad from school and his face was a picture when he saw the rear TV, although he seemed more taken by the fact that 'someone has put seats in the boot, Dad'...:D

I've just spent the last hour having a look through the COMAND guide book and putting into order the TV channels, which are freeview.

I'll be giving her a good wash and polish on the weekend so I'll post some pictures up then (weather permitting).

I might even use the two bucket method....;)

It's been a while since I was privileged to drive one of these and I'm now contemplating whether to have another little drive tonight...:D

Well done congratulations!

Thank god for that . I was getting bored to tears waiting for you to decide that the only car you could possibly choose would be a Merc. Didnt realise you lived in Harrogate though ! Well done , hope you are well pleased with it , and enjoy:thumb:

Good - so you can stop pestering me to sell mine now!

I suspect you would prefer the V6 anyway - well done and I hope it's everything you wish it to be. Sounds very promising though! :thumb:

Enjoy ;) Go for a wee dark drive.
I used the q7 tonight for a change (and I have a touch of towage to do tomorrow). Came home smiling, what a car.... :(
Gonna miss it.

Enjoy your 211 pal, glad you got there in the end.

Congratulations on the new car

How did it fare against the 535d? ;)

In a nutshell, the 535 felt naturally quicker than the E320 ( which it is by about 75 bhp iirc) but the S211 felt that bit more effortless.

I was aching a bit when we first arrived but the journey home in the E Class was an absolute dream.

Brabus D6 tuning will see to that.

Only driven a 730d but found that engine not as hushed as the MB 3litre but when pushed the BMW made a nicer noise.

The BMW is so different to the Mercedes. I had a friend who has a 545i and the BMW is definately more spacious, the seat adjustment is better in the BMW and car is definately bigger inside. However, they do not ride well, the E90 3 series is definately the more comfortable and nicer car IMHO if I was a BMW man.

The 211 feels a nicer size, and IMHO drives very well and everything just falls to touch.

Glad to hear it Lee, can I stop locking mine at night now? :D

By the way don't waste your money on the over-priced Brabus box, just get a remap for about £300. :)

I've been in touch with another forum member who is selling a V6 CDi Brabus tuning box for a very reasonable price.
I just need to check that it works with mine because it's out of a CLK320 CDi.

The only two things that I want to do are; change the standard Avantgarde wheels for 18" Sport or AMGs and also get it remapped or buy a brabus box..

The drivers overmat is slightly worn but all the others are fine so I'll see if I can just find that one.
Also there is the pin missing from the retractable load cover so it's not staying in position.
Other than those two things, it's in excellent condition!:D

Great stuff,

Almost exactly what I changed on mine, first the wheels and then the Brabus box.

I even bought some black mats as the grey ones 'look' nice but are not children or even adult friendly :)

Has yours the newer wedgy 'front'

No, it's one of the last of the pre-facelift.

I will probably do the power upgrade before the wheels, because the ones that are on have loads of tread left.

I've kept mine in the garage,

Not sure if to sell them as two tyres almost new, or use them for Winter and get some snow tyres.
