My SL60 AMG has been nicked

That's horrible news, but I reckon you're really fortunate that your house wasn't ransacked at the same time. I'm sure that's little comfort though. :-(

Sorry to hear about your car. Good luck with your search for a replacement. Replacing an SL is not an easy task, however I am glad I am selling mine now as I will be moving early part of next year and will probably not have secure parking.

I've just been checking auto trader and there are similar cars for £35K, £28K, £27K and £23K respectively. Does this mean I should get £22.5K from my insurers?
No. You need to collect as much documentation about the car as possible, service schedules, receipts and if you have any silly photos of you with the car in a gleaming condition remember to include them :) . They will base the valuation on the pre-theft condition of the car, I don't know why they bother to ask for the "approximate value" because they don't use it for anything AFAIK.

Good luck!

Not sure I want to compound my misfortune by buying a Jag!!
But seriously, I will be putting a Tracker on my next car. £500ish cost now seems cheap.....
Might go CLK430 Cab as replacement (if it comes to it). Any thoughts? What is the boot space like in these cars ?

Sorry to hear the news.

Boot space on a CLK cabrio is ok, not great. Its fine with the roof up!

There is a fully loaded CLK430 cabrio on eBay at the moment!

Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune mate, hope it turn up soon :(

gutted, what else can I say that others havent. Good luck mate.

What Ian said directly before me.

So sorry to hear this Nick.

Having only just come into R129 ownership, I know the question "What am I going to replace it with?" only too well.

Thinking of you, mate.
Greg

Sorry to hear of your loss. Damn those Motherf**kers!! I'll definatly look out for it in South London where I live.

Thanks all. The shock is gradually wearing off after calls to car and home insurers. I really don't expect to see it again and just have to resign myself to that fact.
I am most worried about the settlement offer I might get from the insurers. I paid £26K for the car and estimated its value at £22.5 when I renewed my policy a month ago.

Even if I do I'll not find as good a car as mine for that money.........
I'm just so gutted. For once I thought I'd bought a car that wasn't losing (much) money, was very reliable and I had no intention of selling it.
And now, it is gone and will probably end up costing me a fortune (£600 excess, cost of sat nav etc etc etc).
Just so miserable.
What on earth do I get to replace it???????

You might be OK if the insurance pays "market rate", you could be in with a shout around the £22K range, worst case it may be based on glasses guide which will be more much more reserved than the current forecourt prices 17K if that. Unfortunately the market for R129 SLs is in the pits and there are hundreds for sale this may reflect badly for you.

As for replacements, I think you are stuffed as you liked the SL feel so much, Even I had tantrums about sh1t build quality of pretty much every car I drove after I decided to sell mine. Even the 911 did not feel right :( In the end you have to bite the bullet and try something different...

Bad news hope it turns up safe and sound, but I doubt it unfortunately. A top class car will have been stolen to order.

Real bummer, I feel for you.
I suppose you've changed your house locks etc if these keys were also stolen?
It might be worth cancelling all your credit cards as well. just to be on the safe side.
I don't think a tracker would have helped. Thieves that steal this type of car will probably assume they all have trackers and have a way round them?

As Nick knows only too well there were very few SL60s ever made. I wonder how many actually survive now that they're six or so years old?

as has been said , gutted for you. i hope they find the thieving scum.

There are always a few for sale though...

I would think that the survival rate for the time being is quite good, as SLs are not normally written off due to their value, and not many muppets can aford a car with an engine that big so most of them are probably in quite safe hands...

I don't know if a dead market helps or hinders you Nick.

Very sorry to hear this. Spread the word on as many motoring forums as you can.

Good Luck.

Regards,

It's all been said already. Thinking about you matey.

As everyone has said, awful news and I hope you can work around this somehow :(

Again, very specialist car, hardly common and extremely likely to have been stolen to order. I'm sure we are all going to keep looking for any SL60s knocking around London and elsewhere.

Good luck,

Will

Sorry to hear this Nick, hope you get a good pay out for it.
