My SL60 AMG has been nicked

There must be a SL72 (or was it 73?) with your name on it? :D :D :D

Hi Nick,
Cars are stolen every minute of every day, and I never give it a second thought. this however is more personal.

I am so sorry for you and I hope things work out.

Good luck and fingers crossed,
John

If you DO get another SL600/60 AMG, how about popping the badges off it to avoid any more undesirables taking a fancy to it? :)

I see an SL200 mod coming on :)

Definitely...........but am moving house on Friday and the new car, whatever it may be, will be safely locked away in a garage ever night.

Old bill rang me yesterday.......

Lo and behold - the cops have recovered my car!! Only took them 8 months.
No details yet (I'm waiting for them to call me tomorrow) but apparently it has been involved in "serious crime" (check the boot for £53m).
They want to check what property of mine was in it when it got nicked, so they can return it to me.

I am quietly hopeful that I may get my becker satnav stereo back.......:D :D

They crooks must have spent a good few months driving around/cruising in it and given it a good thrashing too as well a g etting up to no good in it.

Guess the Insurance company shall be disposing of the vehilce now as it is their property. My guesses are that you shall probably have to contact your insurance people before they allow you to remove any fixtures/fittings from the vehilce as they are now the legal owner (s) of the vehicle...

They repeatedly tell people that the contents of the vehicle and the stereo equipment etc isn't insured, so presumably they didn't pay out for those items and Nick is still entitled to pick them up!

true :(

am secretly hoping it was the getaway car used in Tonbridge!!

they didn't pay out on the stereo but they then say that the value that they give you for the car effectively includes the stereo i.e. you would pay less to replace a car with a rubbish stereo in it - catch 22..........
anyway, I never expected to get anything back, so am not really bothered

Yeah I bet you'll be glad to get those briefcases full of cash that you left in the boot, along with the roll of axminster carpet and the faberge egg that went missing :)

I would be interested to see what sort of figure the Insurance company are asking for the car? You might get a bargain that you can sell on, although the registration document will no doubt always carry the stigma of what has happened.

Have a word with the officer dealing with the case. Any property that cannot be proved to be connected to any crime, and not identified by you as your property, must be returned to the low life gentle-person that stole your vehicle. (This might have changed)

Good luck,
John

the only thing I do want back is my lovely brabus leather/carbon steering wheel. I really miss that!!

With Policies that I have taken out the documents stated that "Audio" Cover was only limited to £750...

Slightly OT maybe but whereas Tracker has been mentioned as one lock for your stable door, no mention has been made of a house alarm. You may have had one but not mentioned it but if the car keys are stored out of sight, the house alarm will reduce the time the toe rags are prepared to spend looking for them.

With car security getting better and better, stealing keys from the house is becoming an increasing problem.

We had a 3-series stolen from work, after they ahd broken into the office and stolen the spare key. Because the car was taken with the key, the insurers clearly thought our claim was fraudulent (charming!).

They eventually paid up and 1 week later the car was recovered during serious crime investigations. At least we were vindicated and the 'claim value' was lower (they could sell on the recovered car and reduce losses), and our premiums did not rise excessively.

Nick, hopefully your insurers will not penalise you too heavily either.

i would try and buy the car back, and bargain with them on the price, you may get a bargain back, even with past history it`d be worth buying back and selling on.

An easy way to get that steering wheel and those heated seats you are missing.....

Chances are it will not be in the same immaculate condition (after all these idiots are not likely to treat someone elses property with the utmost respect like we do with our own cars....). I certainly would not want to buy a car off anyone that has been abused/thrashed around by idots and would walk away from anything that was stolen/recovered (HPI Check/paperwork) would reveal all this.

No harm in enquiring about buying it back but I personally would leave it and move on as you have your identical replacement now.

that can all be reflected in the price!

You can only treat a car badly to an extent. I mean don't get me wrong, I doubt they wiped they feet when they got in or adjusted the passenger side mirror as they parked to avoid kerbing the wheels, but what do you expect?
