I just upgraded the Euro COMAND on my '02 C32 with the MY01 from http://www.geocities.com/comand12000/. The COMAND is a 463 unit I installed myself and it had the language option (english, germany etc) piror to the upgrade. After the 2 stages download, everything worked, except for the language option under SYS/config is now greyed out :( Anyone have any idea? Was it a bad upgrade or is there a way to enable the greyed out seletion menu? Thanks!

There's no navi map for Hong Kong available, I'm using the COMAND mainly for DVD etc :(

I think you might need to put a navigation disc (any) in for the languages to appear I'm afraid.

Have you tried a different navigation disc?

I wondered if it was that so I ran out to my car and removed the NAV disc.
I could still change the language option even when there is no disc present so the language options must be in the on-board software.
Sorry doesn’t help but it does eliminate that possibility.

Calling Alfie...

When you first put a navigation disc into a comand unit it spends about 5 mins pulling data off it, I suspect the languages are part of that update.

As shude and others have said, put the navigation disk into the system. Leave it in for a while and then you should be able to set the language. The languages are on the disk and are loaded into the comand. Once loaded it will stay there until you either do a full reset or load MY01.

If you followed the MY01 update properly it should have told you to load the navi disk at the end of it.

Out of interest which language were you hoping to use?

I need English as I can't read German :( But I thought the language date is on the firmware itself, at least according to the config.sys in the ISO

And the last part of the update (after the 2 stages download) the menu was in Germany after reboot, it had only "OK" to choose so I had no idea if it did ask for a navi disc :(

Well, anyone have any old disc that just sitting around collecting dust? I'll need one XD Thanks guys!

I wonder if I change the following letter from G to E and reload the firmware would do it...

G # Default Sprache ist CD abhaengig
M # Default Masseinheit ist CD abhaengig

Worst case you could always buy one off ebay, a UK one is probably about a tenner for 2001, 2002 etc and would do what you want.

None on eBay UK or DE :( Anyone has an old copy for sale?

The languages are definetly on the MAP CD - so you need to put a MAP CD back into COMAND and let it load it, then you can select the language (via the SYS button).

Go to www.mercupgrades.com and look at the COMAND FAQ, theres a link in there which will find you a map disk on ebay

Dont change the letter in the boot file on the disk, it won't help you as the fw upgrade cleared the memory out including the navigation data and languages.

Cheers
Richard

Thanks guys :( It's only DVD map everywhere I looked included the link :(

Ive got a 2002 disc you can have, its a dx one.

Let me know if thats any use to you.

Yup, that's the one!!!! I'm in HK and I can PayPal right away, can you please help!! Please PM with with price :D Thanks!!!!!

Yet again the Internet improves cultural relations.

Im interested in what Mercedes sell to Hong Kong... surely that must have some alternative?

Well, we mostly go by UK specs except everyone wants leather seats over here and A/C instead of heater haha.. We have pretty much the complete line except CDIs, A, B, C, CLK, E, R, GL, ML, S, CL, SLK and SL etc...

Ok, the languages are indeed in the firmware and not the map disc. It just happened that the languages take a lot longer to load than my previous firmware and I just didn't waited long enough :P

I left it on the config screen while driving just now and it finally let me choose different languages.. :D Problem solved, thanks everyone!!
