New Merc key design

OK - mission accomplished :D - I have got the pic of the key from the magazine!!! It was hard work as the supplement was actually part of the page (stuck down).

This evening at home I will scan it and will probably forward it on to someone to post for me if I can't figurre out how to post it on the forum...

Dare I ask why it was stuck down ? What magazine was this ???;) ;)

All you key lovers out there:

This is the key I got with my new ML. I only ordered keyless go so I could have this key, but apparently this will now be a standard key with all new Mercedes.

Thats the one...:)

My scanned pics are no where as near as good as your pic so I wont even bother posting the scanned image.

I'm going to PM Jay to see if he can assit with part no. pricing etc. or even possibly supplying the key (s) if we provide the relavant paperwork/documentation before hand as per usual... :)

Nice key :D And to think I was excited when my new car came with the 'Chrome' starred version ! Bet that new one will get mucky, fingerprints, and scratches all over it in no time though, and won't look very shiny for long :(

Still .. at the right price ........... ;)

Can't believe I'm excited about this key. Hope this works out :D. At least MW_C32 was honest saying that he only ordered keyless go for THIS key! :) Glad I'm not the only one!

You guys are like big kids crossed with magpies !!! :D

Hehe. Actually because of keyless go you never really see the key except when you take it out and put it back in the key cupboard. It always stays in my pocket on its own without loose change ;)

It does feel rather nice and solid (the key muppet) like a small metallic ingot, very classy.:D

It'd look great at a 'swinger' party when you all put your keys in the fruit bowl ;)

at the right price I'd be interested too - if it would fit my 202? - transponder tip looks just like my current key which is for a 203, i think, but came with car [other key is busted but is a different shape]

thats is the latest key to be supplied with the mb new cars....

If you were to order a replacement key for an 2003 W211 for instance it wouldn't automatically come through as the new "chrome" version...

Out I.T. guy is destroying (sorry repairing) our server at work today so I may not be able to look into it until tomorrow but I'll find out if its able to be ordered as a replacement for older vehicles.

If it helps, the link I posted to the US forum in this thread indicated that if you attempt to order the key on the MBUSA parts system it would flash up a message implying it's not compatabile (or something), apparently acknowledging this message allowed the key to be ordered.

Don't know if the MBUSA parts system is different but thought I'd mention it...

the answer is NO.... Just tried to order a new chrome style key for 04 plate W211...
reply by Milton Keynes (Part Blocked For Sale)

I just checked the old part number (which as yet) does not superceed over to the new chrome key..
As Milton Keynes still have 3000 odd blanks still in stock of the old style key, I reckon they will want to use them before superceeding the number over to the new chrome version...

I reckon it will be possible once like I say the old stock has been used....

Anyone want 3000 keys !!! LOL

That's a shame, wonder how long it would take them to get through 3000 keys! Is that the only reason it would say Part Blocked for Sale?

I was hoping it could also be the issue I posted with the MBUSA system. The american parts ordering system would apparantly flag up a message saying the part isn't available / compatible if you attempt to order this key when entering a VIN for a vehicle which wasn't originally shipped with this type of key.

I assume that this key would be available as a replacement for those that already have it, like MW_C32 on his new ML?

Quote from mbbodytech (who started the the original US Forum thread in 2005) see above for the link:

...When the parts person puts the order in with the new key part number and your vin, it is true that the screen says that the key doesn't match the vin you entered, and that you should check your information. However, if you just hit enter again, the message goes away and it takes the order. Stick to your guns - it does work!!
