Oily smell inside car when idling

Sorry I forgot one important thing, if your dealer was any good, he would have done this on your behalf. Lets take my case.

I did not buy my car from MB SW, an only had 1 service done by them, but a bad fault was found with my ABC. They got onto the phone to HQ and negotiated a good discount and also added to that themselves, knocking a huge chunk off the repair.
There are good and bad out there, Tony Purslow is another good one the do work on the customers side, the bad ones don't care a dam

MB SW could be the dealer of the year

To be fair, tomorrow is the first time I will have asked the dealer who has undertaken all routine servicing, to look at this problem. Using your example I will insist they contact HQ (... I assume this is MBUK) and request contribution towards repair.

Been searching thru the forum tonight and it seems that diesel leaks in the vicinity of the high pressure pump are not uncommon. So I am armed with loads of useful info when I need to talk to MB. Only hope that the pump itself does not need replacing and it is a fuel line that is the source of the leak.

Thats fine, the word insist might be strong at this point, the worst dealers that I have in mind have been on the gearbox threads. What will happen is the dealer will look at the history of the car,, MBUK also have all of this info and its based on that, so good luck

Fixed

Replaced two fuel lines, two coolant hoses then engine cleaned and its fixed. Thankfully the fuel pump did not need replacing.

MB offered goodwill contribution but labour rates still left little change out of £200.

My only regret is that the Bosch Service Garage were too quick to condem the fuel pump.

Never mind, its fixed and the interior is a much more pleasant place to be.

EDIT:
Having read this post I realised that the cost I originally stated was wrong - I was tired at the time

George,

Glad that you got it sorted. I always had a feeling that it was Diesel fuel oil rather than engine oil from the start.

Looks like Mr IBW got it right on first guess also on the location of the Derv leak ?

Yes indeed and for those who suspect a diesel leak its worth going back to post No.28 and reading the comments of Mr IBW who diagnosed the problem spot on.:)
