Just as I was starting to think that I would never live to see the day that my V6 320CDi would do more than 33mpg, today I got a new pb of 36mpg by the end of my journey and a peak of 36.3mpg!

Yes, I was driving quite conservatively, but I was going at the speed limit (honest officer) and not holding anybody up.

The total journey was about 50 miles long over a mix of roads and traffic conditions.

That puts it only 7mpg behind my wife's Volvo V50 DrivE with it's nasty 1.6l engine and manual box. :bannana:

I believe my 211 has the earlier straight 3.2 diesel lump, that managed a pretty respectable 37mpg on a 700 mile trip too and around Devon.

Biggest percentage of that was motorway at 70mph but the other part was B roads and winding country lanes so I thought that was a good average.

Funny thing is that on the motorway it shows 800 miles to a tank, round town 300.

I average 38 over the last 8k miles.

There's a lot of motorway in there, UK and Europe.

Saw exactly the same MPG in the 3.0 petrol in my last car.

Next car unlikely to be diesel.

The 320 is a peach, I love it.

Indeed, and I love the 211 much more than my old 210 version. Power is so much smoother, although, I do kind of miss the kick in the back feel that my 210 used to give.

I am sorely tempted to look at performance upgrades next year, assuming that I'm able to stay healthy and get back to work successfully, as I see this as being a long term car.

Did a 350 mile round trip in my V6 diesel-engine W203 320 CDI estate a couple of weeks ago and on mixed roads it returned over 45mpg. I was very happy with that.

Mine often returns over 40, mixed a and b roads. It was much less economical until I replaced the thermostat.

Just done a leisurely cruise to pick up my little girl, 260 mile round trip on M25/M4.

Indicated an average of 53mpg and cost me £28 in V-Power diesel.

Considering my Saab 9-3 was a 1.9tdi and although indicated 60mpg, cost me give or take the same amount.

The best ive ever had from my Mapped I6 s211 e320 cdi.

WTF?!:confused: How on earth did you do that. That's amazing!

What mapping have you had done and what was it like before?

I only had the car about a week before i had it mapped, as all my cars get mapped.

It did around high 40's to low 50's, It was done by Chip tuners Ipswich. It worked out spot on as i brimed the tank then refilled.

It was only over 20 miles @ 50mph, Usual Mpg is around 54 at 65-70mph in cruise.

I own a Motor Factors so filters and oil's i get very cheap so change the Oil n filter every 3,000 miles and the fuel filter every 6,000 miles. Only ever gets run on Premium Super derv.

So, was it mapped for economy? How did mapping change the performance of the car?

Share the love with the filters! ;) :D

Those really are some impressive figures. I would love it if my big barge gave the same MPG as my wife's supposed Eco box. :D

It's only 15 miles though with the cruise set at 50mph.

I like the 3 litre V6 Merc diesel, but it isn't the greatest for economy imho, not after living with several BMWs with more power and much better economy.

I have it now with the 7G 'box in the C320 sport estate and it will see 36-38 on a normal run without trying too hard, but overall average is more like 32-33mpg.
I had it in the 2007 E320cdi as well, that was the same, although I did more long runs with it than I do in the C Class.

I also have the 3.5 V6 petrol in the S212 E350, that is averaging about 3mpg behind the C320, the 6 mile school run is actually more economical in the E350, 28mpg in that vs 26/27 in the diesel.

On a long run though the diesel starts to take the lead, but it does take till about 20 miles in for it to do so and then it will hit 36 to 38, where as the petrol is never more than 34ish.

So depends what you are doing journey wise, I am down from 40k miles a year to around 20k miles a year, so more than half my journeys are now sub 10 miles where the petrol is better.

I am getting between 450 to 480 miles from an average tank for £75, will see 550 miles if I have a couple of longer runs, more than happy with that.

Arrived here in Spain just over a week ago in my E350 coupe, total of 1,203 miles from Calais over two days with one night in Bordeaux en-route, average speed 63mph, and fuel 43.5 MPG, which I am quite pleased with, the 9g, will cruise easily at 85 MPH, at 1500 rpm, incredible, lovely engine. :thumb:

I got 36.1mpg today!

Achieved a new record the other day on a run to Maidstone and back - I got 38.2. :) I'm pretty sure it's doing better than my old 210 E320cdi.I'm now at over 500 miles from a tank. :)
