Picked up c63- quick question..

I'd speak very highly of Wheels In Motion my car was in there Thursday and front tracking was a mess which they managed to sort easily.

Also, I wouldn't be happy with that response and request a new tyre.

Simon, the speil states 4mm over 75% of the centre...

Well mine ended up costing a lot more than it should. When the one tyre they didn't replace was scrubbed the other rear had 6mm left. I had Yohohama Advan sports fitted. Guess what, they don't make the tyre any more. There is a new model out but it has a completely different tread pattern.

Now I'm not going to mix tread patterns on the same axle and MB didn't give a toss so I now have two new rear tyres and a Yokohama Advan sport 255/30/19 with 6mm of tread sat in the garage. !!

That would fall below standard for our forecourt. 4mm is our standard

If you'd noticed it before the sale I'm sure they would have replaced it, now they've got your money it's a different matter.
I'm picking up my 2013 C63 next week, I got the MB dealer to fit a new windscreen due to a small chip, repaint the front bumper, take care of a couple of minor marks and small dent and refurb the front seat. It's amazing what they will do to get a sale, the car had already been fitted with two new rear tyres and new rear disks and pads for its B service. If I'd noticed any of these things a week after purchase I'd imagine they would have given me the finger.

To confirm the above statement....
After a few phonecalls to Birmingham Mercedes and speaking to their aftersales manger whoconfirmed that as the centre depth is the reading they go by they will not replace the tyre and he believes that there is no need to replace it anytime soon. He also dismissed the opinions of everyone on here saying he doesnt really care what any owners clubs or forums say.....
Just thought I would inform those people researching a purchase!

+1 Wheels in motion

Does the tyre have 4mm across the centre 75%?

If not take it back with the T&Cs for their (that's right their not there) approved used scheme, they are in no position to argue against their own conditions.

Why would he take any notice of what faceless/nameless people on the internet think?

I am sure that many companies have suffered through bad reviews and comments on the internet. Have you ever made a complaint in writing and then backed it up by a twitter comment? The response you will get from a complaint seen by one versus a complaint seen by potentially the world is quite different.

In my case a response from above was by a fellow mercedes dealer (or claimed to be as I cant check the validity if his comments), I assumed that he may be interested how his business will be viewed. I may be wrong.

How do you determine the centre 75%? The inner and outer readings are below 4mm

Does the bit in between the bits below 4mm cover 75% of the tread width?

If so, I would say that the dealer is correct.

Easiest way is to take it to an MOT test station and ask one of the testers to use their width gauge.

Did you post a complaint on Twitter?

Motoring forum members tend to have an inflated sense of worth and like to think they have a strong voice with car dealers/traders, which they simply don't. Most will bash away at a keyboard moaning and whining about their bad deal when in fact, in my experience, the way to deal with it is to go to where the car was purchased from and demand some action face-to-face. This has always worked for me, emails are easily ignored, someone stood in the middle of a showroom kicking off is a lot harder.

(None of the above directly aimed at you, just a general observation)

All fair points. I am just outside Epsom and bought the car in Birmingham so face to face was not practical. I fully agree that kicking up a fuss on here andon most other forums does nothing, I did however phone the dealer principal and express my concerns and stated that I couldn't recommend his dealership to anyone based on my aftersales experience and he agreed that it fell below his expectations.
The issue is now resolved and I am getting a new tyre fitted! Top marks to Birmingham for service recovery....in the end...
