Poor sound quality when playing music from phone (aux)

Thanks for straightening this out Curator.
You are 100% correct and my problem is NOT with the volume of the sound, but the quality of the sound when i play music through my phone that is connected to the AUX-port.
The same phone/cable setup is being used in my Skoda and there it works flawlessly.

I will have a look at the AUX-port and its cabling tomorrow and see if i can find any damages or nicks to it.
I seriously doubt that the previous owners have done anything to the AUX-port since he had been using the car with the speedometer language set to German and the units set to Imperial.
Instead of metric and English/Swedish as it should be..
The car was once imported to Sweden from Germany and the previous owners did barely use the car at all, in 6years the car had done about 16500miles..

OK, I think its unlikely that you will find any cuts or nicks in the wiring,
because the four cables are sheathed within a protective sleeve but
it's still worth checking it to rule it out.

Check the plug that connects to the loom in the foot-well too, make sure
the terminals and pins are clean and that the plug is fully inserted into the
socket. Again its unlikely that this is the fault, but rule it out.

Try a different device, an old iPhone was useless and a different hone was miles better.

What Lewyboy is suggesting is a good idea, do this before you start stripping
the car apart, weirder things have happened. Borrow another phone or mp3
player to rule this out too.

The last thing you can try is another Aux cable but this is going to cost you money.
Its possible that the socket in the glove-box has broken inside somehow and
when you plug your phone into it the connections inside are 'shorting' or
touching one another in some way.

If after you've checked all this and your problem still exists then I'm not sure
what else I could suggest that you could do yourself.

You may need to seek advice from an audio professional. They will give you better
advice than I ever could but it will cost you. I'm no expert but I'd certainly try
all the things I've suggested before going down that route, because (apart
from buying a new aux cable) its free and relatively easy to do.

Let me know how you get on - the fault certainly is an odd one.

Any harm trying?

Sod being helpful, normal service will resume.

You are definitly correct that it might be worth a shot!
I will try with my phone from work tomorrow.
Sorry if you were offended by my post, that was not my intention!

Thanks for your post!
I will have a closer look to it tomorrow when i start to fiddle with the car!

I really do like the car, however it is a bit annoying that the sound quality currently is worse than in my Skoda, even though the Skoda probably was half the price of the Merc once it was new.. :bannana:

No worries, Seems you've found yourself a nice CLC there.

Only 16.5k miles in the last 6 years? Wow!

I bet the 270BHP V6 puts a smile on your face too, good find.

Shame about the audio issues, I hope you get them sorted soon. :0)

And we still don't have the answer to the problem here lol, they're ALL like this

lol is my post invisible? Mine's fine, after my solution. :)

Is it that it's quality that's the problem and not volume? As it's normally the quietness that people complain about.
