Hi guys

Just wondering what the finish difference / resilience difference is between having my wheels powder coated or painted?

I heard powder coating is better, but im unsure? Can anybody help!

Thanks guys

I had a set of BMW wheels powder coated a few years ago, they dip them in something like acid to strip them, repair any scratches and chips then beadblast the wheels. The wheels are then electrically charged and coated with the powder before baked in an oven to melt the powder over the surface.

I have just had my MB wheels painted, I beleive that is how MB wheels are originally done and most manufacturers are going that way.

I think the paint looks better than powder coating, not sure which will last longer, I will let you know in a couple of years!

Powdercoating is by far a harder, longer lasting finish.

Obviously you can respray the wheels yourself and get a good finish ( if you are patient) but if you intend keeping the car for a long time get them powder coated.

So, Pluggers, you can do a sideline in powder coating wheels??

Hi Guys

Power coating it is! I took them to MSS in Leeds, I took a pictures of before the treatment and I will take a picture after too and post on the forum.

I opted for power coating as they told me the same thing (harder coat and better wear resistance etc) They do wet painting aswell.

£131 inc VAT for power coating - two stage finish plus laquer. i saw some samples and I was v. impressed! See how it goes hey!

Wheels are back!!

I will be taking some pictures in the next fews days, and believe me they are just FANTASTIC!

Went to collect them and they pointed them out to me on the wheel rack. I pointed out that they were not actually there, till she said "no, they are definately yours sir". I was shocked  Looked totally different and as if they came straight out of the dealership.

For £131.60 for a set i just cannot complain. They have a rock hard finish on them with the powder coating and a hard laquer shell over. I have them done in bright sparkle silver and you will see yourselves in he picture! Works out to about £33 / wheels inc. VAT

Can't wait to see the results - will be worth storing this one for potential future use of the finish is good
