Ready steady Queue

Apologies if this has been suggested before but I have been dipping in & out of the 19 pages & I haven't read them all. As every car/vehicle has a fuel gauge why not say fuel will only be sold to people with less than half a tankful. It is then up to the driver to decide if they want to queue for 2 hours knowing they will likely be refused fuel. Having said that I wouldn't like to be the staff member designated to check the gauges & tell them "no"

I accept I maybe missing something here but yesterday evening the government said they were releasing their "reserve tanker fleet".

My immediate thought was "who's going to drive them if there aren't enough drivers for the regular fleet?".

:dk:

I have just this moment (09:45) heard on LBC radio a bloke on the phone saying he did 80 miles and went to 21 stations in the South East and got just 20 litres (he said, probably meant £20 ) ??

I assume it was Diesel

How many people who now have full tanks normally run round with less than a quarter of a tank & stick in a fiver's worth. As I said before its the media's fault. Had they never mentioned that some BP stations had closed no one would have cared & just gone to the next petrol station.

Early bird catches the worm. Just picked up half a tank on the A3 North at Coombe Lane, Kingston.

Wasn't looking but I noticed a tanker parked in the station and thought "Hold on, that's a clue."

A 20 minute faff but that's me done.

Back to normal by Monday morning?

I filled up one of our cars this morning at my nearest station - BP - (A69 Warwick Bridge, east of Carlisle) on the way to work, just after 7am. No queue but had to draw Ultimate diesel as no regular left. Cashier said they'd be out of Ultimate within the hour with no idea when they were getting a delivery. They have a number of stations in Cumbria and at least six were similarly affected. She also said another local station (Shell) a bit further east on the A69 at low Row was completely dry.

I was driving past our local Tesco this morning and couldn't believe my eyes, two cars in the queue !! Some pumps had 'No fuel' signs on them but six pumps were working. So I filled up and it took me probably ten minutes to fill up and go :D

Drove through Weston-super-mare this morning on my way to a job. I passed Co-op, Shell and Morrisons garages and all operating normally with no queues at all.

Hi , very interesting thought but our leader the reserve fleet will be driven by civilian drivers , looked like army trucks to me !

As of today, most filling stations here are empty, and the ones which are open have no queues at all now. Very strange.

It seems supermarkets are managing the situation best. I’ve not seem a Shell or BP open for almost a week now, and only one Esso was open temporarily.

It's the same all over the 3 shires in the South West Midlands.

The Shell and Esso stations near me are open most days, but soon run out and close again. There's not much diesel in the 350, and I need it to go Oop North next Wednesday, so I'm going to leave it till Monday before I start panicking.

No fuel round here this evening (Market Drayton) - both Shell & Morrisons were closed when we went past at 7:30.

Don't know about "Rural Kent", but Tesco Park Farm Ashford was still coned off and closed yesterday, really glad I tanked up the S204 and SLK last week just before the madness started, especially as we had to round trip to Maidstone twice this week for hospital visits and have a visitor this weekend - and that the S204 does 45+ per gallon!

Filled up yesterday at my local Texaco. Rural Kent. 10 minute queue. Was chatting to the lovely pierced girl on the till and she told me that she has had more abuse in the last week than in the last 3 years combined. Twats.
Yep, I agree, "Twats" as though it's her bl00dy fault.

All fine up here, plenty fuel and no queues although Shell have a £30 limit on.
Must be a Southern thing 😀😀😀😀

A clue here from my local paper?

''UK Government ‘trying to poach’ ambulance drivers to fill HGV roles

PREMIUM CONTENT
An ambulance driver has criticised the UK Government over letters sent to thousands of staff encouraging them to take roles on heavy goods vehicles.''
