'Rear propshaft coupling is split requires replacing'

I recently bought an SL55.

I am reading the last garage bill that came with car, under recommendations this was stated so it has not been replaced.

What is this? and how is it effecting my car currently? and how much does it cost.

It's a rubber doughnut-shaped coupler with steel inserts that allows a flexible connection between propshafts. When they split they start to vibrate at high rpm - eventually if not replaced you would lose drive, however the car would be horrible to drive way before this happens. Not usually expensive and you could fit yourself if inclined to do so.
