I noticed today that my bonnet star was at a weird angle.
I know whats going to happen next, the same as happened with my 190, I will go to bed one day and wake up the next with no star and the apropriate dents/scratches.
I like the look of the star badge and dont want to replace it with a flat badge.
I did a bit of searching and came up with this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...tem=7953326465&category=33643&sspagename=WD2V

Will that badge fit a w202 c class or are they differant on the 190?
I know the 190 badge is on the grill and not directly on the bonnet.
Has anyone managed to get a removable star for a w202? I did a search but came up with very little.

Thanks
Paul

Doesn't Spike have a retractable bonnet star ?

Perhaps they make one for a w202 as well ?

A Spriter van badge fits a w202

I think Spike's is a custom electric disappearing jobbie?

This may upset a few people but I really cannot begin to describe how sad having a removeable badge would be - everywhere you go having to take the badge off and put it in your pocket and even worse being seen putting it back on before you went anywhere :)

How do you decide which journeys are important enough to merit putting the star on the bonnet?

Just what mindset do you need and how vain do you to be in order to think "I must pick up the hood ornament of the car" as you are nipping out to the shops?

I'm sorry, but anybody fitting one of these opens themselves up to thoroughly deserved public ridicule :)

kind of agree, but unfortunately when there are many "little scrotes" out there who decide it looks better in their pocket than on the car - I personally think it is a good idea

Better in your pocket than theirs ;)

tee hee, what happens when you (inevitably) forget to remove the removeable star and somebody nicks it ?

We've lost one star in three years it would be interesting to find out at what rate other people are losing theirs but it's hardly a crime wave is it?

ah....well what sort of response would you expect to that?

Ok - you leave your removable stereo faceplate on the radio - or your mobile phone on the seat...

who do you blame? yourself or the scrote who took it because you left it out?

there is far too much of "you left it on view you were asking for it" responses these days I think - the feckers should keep their hands to themselves - or we get to cut them off!!! :D

just my 2p ;)

Not too bothered about looking like a jessie putting it on or taking it off.
More interested that they dont dent/scratch the bonnet in the process of trying to steal it.
If I cant get a removable one I may end up using the flat badge mod (even though it doesn't really suit the car imo  ) as there seems to be a trend of ripping badges in general off cars where I live at the moment.

Anywhere near Preston by any chance?

Nearer to Lancaster but in the right area!
Are they the same near you?
Seems to be a trend at the moment. Most of the cars on my street have been debadged (not by the owners :( )and any other easily removable bits taken:crazy: .

I think I am reasonably lucky in that I live in a smallish village. So far no vandalism but you always live in fear. My wife works in Blackpool and she had the Mb Chrome dust caps nicked. Couldnt chatch the scrote even with CCTV

Yes, in southampton it is a crime wave, i've sold 2 to the same person on consecutive days...then i sold him a flat badge conversion after that.

Yes, he had only owned the car those two days aswell!!

I have a removeable one myself, but to be honest it just kinda annoys me now...can never bother to take it out, and don't live in an area that anyone will ever nick it...

Gonna sell it, but mine isn't quite like that, that seems a bit rough round the edges.

No, the 190 badge will not fit a W202, sorry...

go to a auto store and buy a red (pos) cable and a black (neg) cable, hook the red one up to the + on your battery, hook the other end to the star, hook the black to the chasis and the other end to the star, there you go, you have a deturant :) i dont know how legal that is in the UK but very illegal here

I had my bonnet star nicked around a month ago, and yes that was in scumhampton.

very illegal and also guaranteed to be the cause of major electrical problems the least of which would be the cables you used melting

The star is connected to the bodyshell which in turn is connected directly to the chassis thus creating a nice circuit

If you'fd like a very quick demonstration of what would happen should you follow those instructions and generate this particular short circuit - place a decent sized spanner across the 2 battery terminals and stand well back :D

Even if you completely insulated the star from the bodywork it wouldn't do any good as a 12volt shock from the battery isn't going to hurt anybody.
