Resetting auto gearbox memory without disconnecting battery..

ok, whats the best method of cleaning them? Naturally I don't want to contaminate it further!

Try HERE

This was on a W210, but I can't see other models being that much different.

Alternate method of resetting autobox.

I tried an alternate method of resetting the box ECU tonight. All you need is quick dual carriageway followed by tight roundabouts and snakey lanes.

Select low gear, floor the accelerator aggressively and let it rev. It soon learns.:D :D

The take off when applying power out of sharp bends is impressive.;)

This evening I cleaned my maf sensor. It was pretty straightforward on my C43 - lift off the air cleaner assembly which is just clipped into place and unclip the sensor. Using Isopropyl Alcohol (£ 5.99 from Maplins) I cleaned around the pipe and also sprayed a liberal amount into the sensor and gave it a bit of a shake to knock any excess out. Second blast just to make sure.

I've not had much of a chance to try it to see if its improved, my journey home hit all the wrong traffic :( , but I'll try in the morning - but it does seem to be improved significantly. I'm pretty sure its not a placebo effect as my wife also found it better.

Edit: performance seems improved once again. Next stop to check ATF level and change. Will order the dipstick from the dealers...

C43 AMG MAF sensor part number: MB 113 094 00 48 or Bosch 0 280 217 810

Just did this on mine and have to say it does work and makes a hell of a difference. I always thought my car was a little reluctant to downshift on part throttle , coming off a roundabout for example, but now it changes down without hesitation.

Same here. Also found the info about difference bet C and S modes and how S is what is stored in the 'habit' memory, very useful. Now I drive in S mode...

Sorry, but I think this is twaddle.

If you expect a slight improvement you will get one.

The only sure test is a blind one.

My car goes faster as I drive out of the car wash, maybe there is a link?

hmmm; thats interesting.

one thing's for sure though; the improvement was a marked one!

have you tried it?

You get the same change in feel if you drive it like a loon. Try a few standing starts, foot to the floor for as long as you dare. This just tricks the car whilst stationary.

Hi,
The only way to do a "FULL" gearbox reset is with STAR, as Bobby D says you only have to do a few standing starts and it is enough to retrain the Transmission ECU so you can noticably feel the difference.

Twaddle? I dont think so. My wife drove the car today for the first time since the weekend and the first thing she asked me when she came home was 'what the hell have you done to the car ? It just wants to go now!'

She knew you had done something tho?
It will relearn very fast so the advantage is minimal.
Yes I have tried and I was not expecting a big change and low and behold there was no big change.
Sorry!

This reset procedure...do you press the pedal all the way to kick down or not?

Standing start, foot to the floor, give it the beans. I've been advised you might need to do it a couple of times. Job done:thumb:

It works on the CLS 320 Cdi. :thumb:

Throttle is more "sensitive", gearbox is no different though.

Dear SLK230UK99

Thank you so so much for that,

it made my baby feel like new , really a huge difference in throttle response.:thumb::bannana:

Found this on the US MB slk forum... was a little scepticle at first until loads of guys reported that their cars were quicker off the line, changed gear at more optimum points etc, so I tried it and it does indeed seem to work!

The long way to reset the gearbox memory is to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes - but follow this quick procedure and it can be done in a couple of minutes!! Give it a try yourselves and post the results if it works!!

" 1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

5. Wait 2 mins for a full alignment.

6. Drive the car as you always do.

Depending on your driving style, this may or may not be a big factor. I do a lot of city driving so I noticed a big change after erasing my history. It is not hard to do this, just follow the instructions - Key on, pedal down 5 secs, key off, pedal up, wait 2 mins. Keep the key in for the entire thing. Seems to work on mine. "
will this work on a c250 mine wont shift gear is there limp mode on these cheers
