Return of the 'Sleeper' Merc - Business Line Range

This all assumes that the general public gives a ****? Most of them can't tell a c180 from a c63 anyway. Where as most of those that buy them new would like it to look as far from a c180 as possible.

Merc need to distinguish between models with more than just body kits / exhausts. AMG only colours without piss take pricing would be a good one.

They could offer it in beige, as well :D

now a taxi spec E63 would appeal but not for the reasons anyone at MB would understand.

Real wealth I suspect don't buy or lease jumped up C and E class saloons.

Quite, they don't go near trashy stuff. FFRR, Bentley, G wagon, and tatty old 7 seater E's :)

Thats pretty much what they drive. Jumped up rep mobiles on lease they do not...

Or Maybach - which "old money" resolutely ignored.

There is an odd dynamic at play - but then I will never be old money.

In my experience, cars such as VW Golf TDI and transporter vans fare...along with 1920 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost.

As I said - an odd dynamic. Or is the mere knowledge that you can have whatever you wish enough to make you not worry?

There is a lot to be said for knocking round in an older van/car - but for most of us lack of parking limits the ability to do so.

Still not sure what people mean by real money, I have seen hideous creations owned by both people that have great wealth and people that have very little.
I think people are referring to conservative and classic taste and somehow believing only wealthy people have it.

old money vs new money.

You have posted 2 classic examples of new money. Anything from the States is new money. Old money is traceable way back before places like that were "discovered"

And ever a full blazing E or C class or 3 or 5 series?

No, but one wealthy person I know does have a Rover 75 estate and a LandRover discovery, though I do remember him having a pagoda when they were new.

The last thing people with real wealth do is display it. Not only does it not fit with how they are, it can lead to robbery.

Which would you chose for a nice Summer drive?

The chap with the Rolls' Wife used to deliver meals on wheels to local OAP'S.
one day she mentioned the car to one lady's middle aged Son and he is a classic bike enthusiast.
Next time she visited, she went round in the Rolls and took him for a spin in it.

I am not sure this fits your bill off true wealth not wanting to show it, oh yes we just bringing the Silver Ghost around :thumb:

It's a special occasions car, not a bling, in your face, everyday car.

He has it because he is a real car enthusiast.

We must have different eyes, don’t get me wrong the car is stunning but in no way subtle and neither should it be by the way.

A friend of mine has real wealth, he ran a Rolls Phantom as a company car, when he retired a couple of years ago we were discussing things in general and he said he felt he needed to economise on his cars when he retired.....he gave up the Phantom and bought a Bently GTC, an Aston DB9 and a Morgan to play with, oh yes and as a present for his wife she got a Range Rover......I hate the guy :D although I haven't seen him for about a year now.....big villa in spain, while the cars (apart from the Bently) are at his house in Surrey :(

When I economise I shop around for the cheapest fuel!

Looks like the colour of a prosthetic limb!

I can't imagine the sleeper range being a good seller. Maybe in the top of the range cars like A8s and 7-series, but not anything less such as a C or E class. I'd rather have an S600 to a S63/65 for example. A bit like the W12 Audi A8. I think it just looks more classy than big bodykits and quad exhausts.
