Hello,

the fuel pump on my 1991 300sl is very noisy, is it easy to change? is it expensive? do i need to if its just noisy? ie will it stop working.... it is really noisy, you can hear it all the time...

Fuel pumps of this age can be noisy. You could try taking THEM, yes them, there are two of them, off and reverse flushing them with diesel. If that does not quieten them down then two new ones are going to cost you £70 each from Euro Car Parts. Easy to do once you have pinched off the main fuel feed from the tank. (tip here if you don't have a pipe clamp. Take a pair of mole grips and two 13mm sockets. Place the sockets over the jaws and pinch the fuel pipe. The radius of the sockets won't damage the pipe).

Has the filter been changed at correct interval as often they are not .

Maybe the filter is partially blocked and pump/s are having to work twice as hard.

A very good suggestion from kth 286 many never get changed

Thanks for the reply, sorry for being so late with a response but have been away. Sorry for asking such a stupid question but the last time i changed a fuel filter it was a biggish silver thing, do you know where the one on a sl is? Is it straightforward to change?

Regards
Jay
