What would you want them to ring fence your income tax, NI and Vat for.?

All tax just goes into a big pot and is used from there.

Why do you think that, regardless of what mileage a vehicle does, a car driver should be shafted under the guise of a green tax?

However , as the number of such cars on the roads falls away , year by year , due to natural wastage , the amount of ill-feeling against the government that a draconian increase in taxation on such vehicles ( many of which are owned by those on lower incomes and who could ill afford to 'upgrade' ) would generate , would be out of all proportion to the relatively small increase in revenue collected .

If a significant increase in taxation on my older vehicles is introduced , I shall be invoking the freedom of information act to find the names of those responsible ; come election time I'll remind everyone just who put their taxes up

I don't think I deserve a special deal but why then should a ML55 be in the same braket as mine or even better if I buy an older car with a huge engine tax is less? surely an older car produces more Co2. Just makes me think buy a bigger engine

Quite simply there is no point in taxing older cars because it is too late to affect the decision to buy them. They already exist, whoever owns them.
