SAAB file for bankruptcy

Such a sad tale....but, like a cat, they do seem to have multiple lives...just how many are left?

Funny isn't it. GM, the largest pension and health car provider on the planet, would no longer exist if they hadn't been bailed out to the tune of $Billions.

Now they're getting all upset about intellectual propety THEY own.....

Silly season isn't it.

I sympathise with GM - given the Chinese approach to R&D is to nick others IP and churn it out, seems reasonable to prevent stuff they have paid to develop falling into the wrong hands and undercutting their own stuff.

They can just buy a Saab cheap and reverse engineer it in any case...

Agreed It was rumoured at the the time one of the reasons BMW bought Rover Group was to get their hands on Honda's production technology shared with Rover at the time. :dk:

It's the software and how it all communicates and works together. A licence to use technology is not something you hand over to a competitor simply because a third party is bust. It is precisely the same reason why in the end GM withdrew from the sale of Opel in Germany.

Sadly I think this IS the beginning of the end.....shame.. :(

Absolutely - I loved mine :(.

Perhaps they can sell their seat comfort expertise to MB.

Not so sure. While I don't think they are likely to survive I think given that our laws are different and don't offer the same protection this was inevitable.

Shame. Writing has been on the wall for some time.

It will be interesting if the Chinese buy what they can from the recievers, and get the technology that they want anyway. They don't really seem to care about IP rights.

When you think how much money Youngman have already poured into Saab, they're surely going to want to see some return on that...

Sad day for Saab, it's employees and fans around the world. And, on a personal note, my local Saab dealer were very, very good and a big shame they won't be around to look after my sad little Saab any more.

I imagine Youngman and others will be back to buy the production line on the cheap once the asset sale begins.

Sad for the staff and dealers, our local one Causeway were very good, it means plenty of bargain saabs around. I understood the old 9-5 production line was already in china.

Saab GB has been in Administration since 29th November, which is pretty bad news for the 20 Saab only dealerships and the two "SaabCity" outlets, who are pretty much stuffed.

Still not clear about Spyker: Swedish Automobile said it was planning to sell to a private equity firm but has that gone through?
