Hello,i am looking for a free file host that i can upload small sound clips to.

What i would like is to link to the URL of the hosted clip and the file will play using the PC`s default media player rather than being directed to the host`s site and having it play it from there.

I did find a suitable one last week(Media Max) but they have merged with another host now and changed the way it works now so you have to visit their site to listen to the clip...

Anyone know of a suitable file host?

(something like Photobucket but for sound.PB don`t do sound)

Thanks.

You should be able to place the sound file on any web space (you should have some free space with your ISP).

Once the sound file is on the web you can embed it into your page/applet so it streams to the client pc.

Like this

OK thanks i`ll try that.
Does it have to be a MP3 file?
The sound clips i have are off a DV cam and are `Wave Sound` files?

no, you can use whatever format you like but you need to consider file size/streaming capabilities and compatability to users machines.

A wav file is huge and is also a windows format so you'd be excluding certain usergroups.

Yes,thats what i want to do,provide a link and when a user clicks on it the sound plays via the default PC media player.

I`m still having trouble doing this....

I have web space provided by my ISP.
I can upoald pics no problem, but there is no easy way for uploading sound files.
There is a facility for `advanced HTML` code.
Can i do it using that
Do you know the HTML for embedding a small sound file?
The one i have in mind is 3.3MB,is that small?

Thanks.

You can upload anything by typing in the ftp address into windows explorer and then copy and paste same as if its to elsewhere on your PC.

You dont need any special code, you just need to hyperlink to the address of the file... unless you want it to play in the bacgound automatically in which case you'll either need a bit of java or flash.

What software are you using to create your pages? Sounds awful.

Spike I know what you mean but Im not sure that esox knows what he/she is talking about. No rudeness here esox, simply a case of have you read more than you understand?

Esox what is your problem?.. uploading or reading?

Are you saying that you can get the file there? If so are you saying that you can get the file there but it wants to download when you click on it and not stream?

My ISP is AOL(yeah,i know.....),and the software on the provided `AOL Hometown` web space is by `Easy Designer`....!....?....:(

Both.
I do not know how to upload a sound clip to my web-page;the web-hosts i have tried so far (and i am able to link to them from my web-page)only allow a client to download the clip from that host rather than stream it to the clients` PC and play it using their default media player like in the example Sp!ke linked to in his above post.
I want to stream,not download.
I think....
Yep,i don`t know what i`m doing..:o
