A140 Elegance
Hi , Can you please helpme.I am having A140 elegance (2001 reg) which I recently bought. It was working ok before I sent it to local car wash for all interior cleaning. Now my car is showing SRS light permanent ON.I have checked the connection underneth the passenger seat which is ok. The car washer stupid guy flooded my car and damaged the central locking vacuum pump which I managed to replace. Central locking is working ok but SRS is ON. Please advise. Your help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Don't just check the connection under the seat - unplug them, spray with contact cleaner, then re-connect.

But more to the point, you'll need a code reader to see which part of the SRS system it is actually complaining about.

Thanks a lot for your help. Actually I am new with mercedes. Is it really a serious problem? Actually my car is working ok and I dont have any problem with my driving. If SRS light is serious problem then what is the best place to check it and how much it will cost to me? Please advise. Thanks again

The best place to get it checked would be a local independant specialist.

It will be a lot cheaper than taking it to a main dealer

Any apporiximate idea about the cost? Actually I have already spent alot of money on it and now running tight on money. all suggestions are welcome. Any advise how to deal with SRS light myself. Thanks

It may just need the light resetting.

The wiring may have been disturbed while they were cleaning the interior.

If you dont have any diagnostic equipment you are working blind as it could be a number of things causing the light to be on.

Also the light can only be turned out with a diagnostic machine such as a star machine.

The approx cost is about £40 for a star test and reset.

On the E the vaccum pump need to be re-programmed to the car via the Star. I guess its the same for you?

The most common issue with the srs is the occupancy sensor in the passanger seat. Get it connected to a star dignosis system and it should confirm.

Hi
I had a simular problem with my S500 when the drain hole became blocked in the air vent The front passenger side of the car suddenly started to flood with water and shortly after the SRS light came on permanately. My local garage checked and found the ECU unit for the front airbag had malfuctioned they managed to get a local specialist to refurb it but it still cost about £500

I just bought a C220 CDI and it had this problem, after spending about 2 hours looking in various nooks and crannies and reading the manual to reactivate the air bag system because "the previous owner had a child seat" Google showed me the way here.

5 mins after reading this thread I had the passenger occupancy sensor plugged back in (after some serious twitching over whether the air bags would deploy or not).

Started her up and bingo the light went out!

Many many thanks everyone, now to deal with the digital dash pixel rot and stone chips and she will once again look good as new.
