The EV fact thread

You know what I mean. 🙄🤣
Tears of laughter “streaming” down his little face….

(I still miss my TIVO which was so good for creating a backlog of interesting stuff to watch.)

With Amazon, Netflix, IPlayer, Disney, ITVX, and 5, I still struggle to find stuff to watch.

And once I find something interesting, I struggle to remember on what platform I found it......
I’ve only just started “Friday Night Dinner” and I can’t remember where it lives.

Mrs MiW struggles to remember “Only Murders in the Building,” but that I do remember.

Methinks I need an App for this.

I watched it and fell asleep half way through. I hope people watching it don’t assume it to be a reliable source of information. Shockingly bad journalism.
It was a complete waste of TV airtime. Even Mrs S stated it wasn't very good (that's the public forum-rated version of her actual words ;))

But make sure you remember the app's name.... :D

Just as an aside; my petrol 3 series has "Brake Energy Regeneration", which actually is more overrun regeneration alternator management, charging the battery when off the throttle.

I believe that Honda had it as early as 15 years ago, it was a precursor to the current technology used in EVs.

Obviously, on an ICE car, the regenerative braking only worked to top up the 12v battery, thus saving some fuel and more importantly (for car manufacturers) reducing exhaust gas emissions, if only by a small amount.

PS: Trains also had it for some time now.

We still have & use a (Humax) DVR. I mostly record films, which often aren't available on the non-subscription streaming services. It's a big advantage being able to skip forward through adverts so we tend to use it for non-BBC series as well (as you can't avoid them when watching on-demand). We do have Prime and Netflix, so not totally old skool :D But we tend to spend longer on those looking for something to watch than the actual run-time of the programme/film ...

Quick question. My Humax died three years ago and I didn’t get round to replacing it because of the Streamers and TV YouTube.

But I would find it useful for the reasons you’ve outlined. That stock of things to watch “later”

When I look at the current range it seems pretty much the same as it was a decade ago. Have they really not changed that much?

I don't think they've changed much. I suspect some small improvements to the user interface, probably more storage, perhaps more tuners. At 9 years old ours is still totally fit for purpose though ... we even watch live TV through it as we prefer the EPG on it to the one on our LG TV. Don't think we've ever gone over about 25% storage used, even with a library of old/favourite films retained on it. I got it cheap by taking out a 12 month BT TV subscription at £7.50 a month then cancelling at the end of the year - so it only cost me £90.

I would definitely replace it if it died. I could record to an external drive added to the TV, but as mentioned I much prefer the Freeview Play interface.

Just had a call

"Dear Mr PMP, your Nissan Leaf will be available for delivery from next Thursday, we have slots available on Friday the 13th of September"

No £hit you have slots available

"I will wait for the following Monday, thanks" 😄

Maybe you should have booked Friday the 13th; if it doesn't spontaneously combust on that day, it never will.

Well I have had 3 cars combust before so maybe a EV was not a good idea ......

(Although 2 were due to my Audio installation expertise and 1 due to a forced regen hoo ha, so a EV that I can't £uck about with is probably less likely to spontaneous combust, hopefully........)

I've got the dentist that day.... never even thought of moving it. Do sensible minded people really believe old nonsense like that these days?.....not me. I'd have collected my new car (not that id ever be seen dead in a Leaf) the first available day... Friday 13th or not! Enjoy your new car!

Sounds like you shouldn't be considering anything more technical than one of these :p

I see no sensible people here ........

Hopefully won't be seen "DEAD" in the Leaf but according to the EV haters it is quite a strong possibility 😁
