The EV fact thread

Sounds very much like a you problem.

What people like you often seem to fail to realise is no one is forcing you to buy any particular car.

Have you seen the interior of any modern car? EV or ICE - massive screens are part and parcel of modern motoring.

Embrace it or stay in the past.
I'll ignore your comments with the contempt they deserve, but I will say one thing. If you're lucky, very very lucky, you may reach an age in your life where modern tech (amongst other things), is alien to you and not within your comprehension to understand and/or operate. Just saying. ;)

I’m not so sure, plenty of 70+ year olds on the EV clubs, so I don’t think it’s an age thing - more a mindset thing.

Adapting to new things can become more challenging as we get older, however that’s much broader than touchscreens, and applies to many things in life.

As @clk320x suggests, that’s largely down to mindset rather than ability. Our ability to change remains the same however attitude to change naturally hardens over time.

Did you not mean to say "EVs. per se", or "not just EVs"?
I’ll say it in a different way.

Touchscreens and the way they’re used is the same whether the car is an EV or ICE. New cars regardless of fuel type make extensive use of touchscreens. Therefore people who find the use of touchscreens challenging will find that to be the case in ICE cars and EVs of similar age.

Therefore the problem you described with (some) “older people” using touchscreens (sic) will apply to all rental cars and not just EVs, and Hertz replacing EVs (in this case Tesla) with ICE equivalents will not address the challenges you describe for those who don’t gel with touchscreens.

Thanks - appreciated.
I guessed the Fuel Type - but missed the Taxation Class.
That's the first IIRC I've seen Revenue Weight (max gross weight apparently) on a V5. An EV thing?

Just checked the v5 for my previous c220d and it also has the revenue weight listed.

Our hybrid Yaris doesn’t.

But the A8 had both and electric motor (starternator) and an additional traction battery (under the boot floor). The car would retain about 70mph for almost a minute with the IC shut down. That's hybrid..but I agree in a very mild, but effective, form.
If you think of medium density traffic on a dual carriageway or motorway, you can see why.
Oh, apologies... I'd say this is a hybrid then!

We are not all born equal so not necessarily purely a mindset issue.

Hasn’t Genesis recently announced their withdrawal as a standalone brand in the UK?
I saw that announcement as well, 3-6 months ago.

But then they followed up with an advertising campaign plus test drives. I particularly noticed the GV range.

So don’t know if that was to clear stock or a change of heart.

But it is just a brand thing. The product will be maintained by the Hyundai network

A bit harsh?

I am certain that there are people on here who never warned-up to the smartphone and still use a simple Nokia. And the first iPhone was introduced 17 years ago... just try telling a teenager today that they can't have an iPhone, see how you get on :D

New things are generally for the new generations... older people can adapt if they want to, but many choose to stick with what they know.

As the old saying goes " Youn can't teach an old dog new tricks".

Let them be...

I watched Harry's Garage video on new Defender with the D300 powertrain and his comparison to the Range Rover Sport with the same powertrain and his explanation of why the Defender used 1/3 more fuel. Higher weight was (a small) part, the drag coefficient the main one. This was in relation to motorway cruising speeds. The difference between your A8 and Macan mpg could be similarly accounted for in the same scenario? That said, off the motorway I'd expect the regen braking of the A8 to contribute to the 20% fuel saving. You,, knowing the driving patterns, would know better as to which of the two (superior aero, regen braking) is making the difference. Possibly/probably both - benefits whatever the driving conditions. If so, that IMO justifies any additional complication.
It would be difficult to measure where the fuel consumption benefits came from in the A8 with out doing some back to back tests.
My gut feeling is the mild hybrid and the lower cd both played about equal parts.
The A8 was great limo, the Macan is just much more fun....oh! and more practical as there is more room for dogs and my garage has enough room for it 😁

No idea, but having seen one on display in the showroom, my thought was that the car will end up in the same way that the VW Phaeton did - the market for luxury cars without a credible brand name is apparently very small.

Ahh! ...but what the Phaeton did was provide the platform for Bentleys as we now know them today. But they did have some history.
To most people Genesis is either the start of the Bible or a prog rock band, neither of which shouts 'luxury car!'

But none as stupid as the one's in a Tesla, where the speedometer isn't obvious, the key controls aren't in front of the driver, and where it takes a lot of screens to find the Radio, if you haven't worked out how to use the voice interface.

Arguably the same could be said about Toyota's attempt to develop the Lexus brand over 30 years ago. Toyota pulled it off, and other manufacturers think that they can do the same.

Genesis cars are built on Hyundai technology. The Genesis EVs share the new Hyundai/Kia Electric Global Modular Platform (E-MGP) with other Hyundai/Kia EVs to include the Hyundai IONIQ 5 & 7 and the Kia EV6.
