The result of drink driving.

The problem is we can't enforce the current limit. Most drivers caught are caught at Christmas or after they crash. Not really enforcement.

The current limit is ineffective and not policed. So how would a change in a limit have an impact?

I am not suggesting that the Police never carry-out spot checks, but they are apparently rare enough to allow too many people to habitually drink and drive and never get caught (unless they hit someone obviously).

May be useful for you both to do some research before making erroneous statements about the level of enforcement.

The stats are readily available online from official government sources.

Isn't this thread a bit early?

We usually get one of these around the festive season.

Brilliant.. Government stats. We can all sleep easily now that we have government stats to help us understand what is really happening. Meanwhile back on Planet Earth in Kent we have the Police. I believe now limited to less than six traffic cars patrolling the entire county 24x7. Please explain hpw that this matches your government stats?.

Drive past most country pubs (that are not closed) you will see the car parks full of cars owned by people who stopped for a tea and a cake. Not a Police car in sight.

Phone up Kent Police to report a motoring offense. This is now a spectator sport.

Well if that's what it's like in Kent, it must be the same the whole world over mustn't it?

Police Funding

Central government police funding will reduce by 20% in real terms by 2014-15. If Police Authorities were to choose to increase precept, part of council tax, at the level forecast by the Office of Budget Responsibility, the SR settlement means that on average police budgets would reduce by 14% in real terms over the next four years

There are mince pies for sale in local supermarkets, therefore it is the 'festive' season already...

Well I hope they don't have as much alcohol in them as Sherry Trifle!

:D

I love it when government stats get quoted..... a huge rolleyes from me :D

I would be quite happy with 35mg in 100ml blood, only UK limit is 80mg in 100ml blood, or, 35mg in 100ml breath ;)

Funnily enough, that was what I first wrote, then thought I'd better just check that and saw a googley post that said blood.

Either way, the current limit is just fine.

Still, it's a long way from the "Chop their hands off if they are above Zero mg" you were spouting earlier.

Ditto - crash into your own garage on new years eve drunk as a skunk no problem but turn your nose up if your neighbour has the audacity to have a bit of red oxide primer on their car for a while or horror of horrors park a van outside their house !

Not from me ! But if the inhabitants of snobville want to take offence to me not joining in their silly one upmanship games that's their business

If one of my neighbours parked a van with primer on outside their house, I'd tell them to shift it....for giving my old cars a complex...
In reality, there is a covenant governing vehicles that can be parked on driveways, so it's unlikely.

Last time I crashed into a garage it was nothing to do with one upmanship and snobbery (even though it was a posh house)...I'd let my mate drive my Mini 1275GT and we went off the road at speed and took out the garage, a Mini and Volvo inside...and nearly Me...

So what's your oracle then; brucemillar's driving passed Kent country pubs database?

As it comes from the god himself, I shall take this as a gospel and live by it from now on.

My vans are both old fords so no rust on them, its only my Mercedes cars that have the red oxide on them !! :)

I like the registration - AAK

Probably the last word to leave the driver's lips…
