The result of drink driving.

Your comment shows just how out of control of yourself and thoughts you are.

You have no idea how much in control of myself I am ;) and I dont ever suffer from 'wine o'clock', which I am lead to believe you know thing or two about.

I have been accused of that when pointing out the frankly childish and idiotic things posters say on here. ;)

The snag with zero tolerance is that a person who has one glass of wine with dinner is just as much an offender as the drink driver who has had ten pints and a dozen shots.

I personally do not see that as a snag, your driving.....do not drink.

At four times over @ 8.30am, I doubt this boy would care either way.

I don't think changing the limits will have much affect as the habitual drink drivers, and their are many if them , will still do it. I rather see a sliding scale of punishment proportionate to the amount of alcohol in the body system

Too much like common sense! The alcoholics - as in the root of this thread - will drive regardless of sanctions, pretty much.

A zero limit will merely criminalise a huge number of safe, competent and thoughtful drivers who toasted a bride and groom two days ago or similar.

Knee-jerk thinking of the Daily Mail tribe. We have a degree of tolerance in speeding charges to allow for petty misjudgements. Do these witchfinder generals want to see amputation as punishment foe .01 mph over the speed limit?

Estimates of his speed are somewhere near 70mph. This is a residential 30mph limit.

Thats ok, no one got killed, we live and learn, dont we?

Ah! You must be the mythical fully paid-up member of the *** fan club we've been hearing about?

I think this is more to do with common sense, general level of civility and respect for the law, rather than a particular DD limit ... As far as I'm aware, there's zero limit in Russia ... well, that's working fabulously, wouldn't you say?

Or their mothers sherry trifle.

P.s. And I better not forget the eleven month matured Xmas pudding!

The punishment could be staggered; current limit equals ban as normal with two or three ranges below that incurring different penalties less than outright ban. Say 1-15 incurring 3 points and small fine like an endorsable ticket, 15-25 incurring six points and larger fine and 26-34 incurring 9 points and bigger fine. Just a thought.

What about the sherry trifle mentioned above...it would lead to a fail too...

In that case your Sherry Trifle has an awful lot more Sherry in it than ours!

I do not think we ought to get caught up on the nit picking, I am sure a minute amount of alcohol is present in most peoples blood a lot of the time, but it will be traces.

The detectors can be set to a level which skims over the "night nurse and Sherry Trifle" problems  and detects the "only one glass of wine" levels which a lot of people feel is perfectly acceptable.

So, not a zero tolerance then as Cinek suggested.

I didn't say zero........I said "don't drink and drive" there is a world of difference between having a few glasses and eating your Sherry trifle, then again I am not sure what kind of serivng you deem normal in the pudding stakes? :D

Who will enforce this zero tolerance limit? Will we have a special zero tolerance police unit. The problem is we can't enforce the current limit. Most drivers caught are caught at Christmas or after they crash. Not really enforcement.

Also is it zero? Or a little bit over? How much is a little? The current limit would seem low to some.
