Turning off ECO stop start W204 for good

What a silly load of ******** this thread is. Just don't buy the W204. Simple. Find a similar car without it and you'll be lucky.

Hi
Bought a new gle last week, how do i turn off the ECO start/stop permanently please?

The Autowatch Ghost product may well do this for you. This will allow you to turn it off permanently and turn it back on should you wish.

email me your VIN number to [email protected] and I can advise further.

Would this now fall foul of the new MoT rules?

The eBay ad is written in poor English and it is also quite confusing... but as far as I understand from the text, it sets to ECO button to 'last used', so if you turned the ECHO button OFF before switching-off the engine, then it stays OFF until you press the ECHO button again, i.e. it won't automatically revert to ON the next time the ignition it switched back on, as it does now.

Then, all you have to do before the MOT it press the button and turn it back on... (assuming the MOT tester actually checks this).

(Which, incidentally, is how the Sport/Comfort transmission settings worked on my W203, as opposed to my W204, where it always reverts to E when the ignition is turned on).

If you don`t mind loosing brake hold, this fix is free, disconnect the negative rail sensor, you can then use any type of battery you like and it will always be fully charged, not 80% with sensor in place. There is no over charge so no damaged battery and no fault lights on dash.

That's good to know. I might try that next.
I have no problem hooking up a voltage indicator into a power point and watch the voltage myself.

I wonder what has been done in my 2012 E63. I leave the stop-start permanently off, and once in a while - no pattern to it, and it can be a month or more since the last time - it will switch itself on for no apparent reason. I switch it off, and wait for the next time, but there must be some glitch in there somewhere.

If you switch the gearbox mode selector from Sport, Sport+ or Manual to Comfort that will switch stop/start back on. Any correlation with what you're experiencing?

Maybe you only have the feature after a long run when the battery is fully charged or when air con/heating rear demister etc all off.

I haven't used any gearbox mode but C for months. No need, really, with 550 hp...

Doesn't seem to have any connection with the state of battery charge either. After a 200 mile non-stop run, I stopped for five minutes, but it didn't come on again. I can activate it any time I want to, though I never do, except occasionally to check out of curiosity if it's available; it always is. :dk:

How do you leave it permanently off?

Once it's switched off, which it always is, it normally stays off when I start the car again.

Do you mean to say that the green light on the ECO button is off most of the time?

If so, then run a STAR diagnostic test, it will tell you which of the very many bits that are pre-requisutes for Start/Stop is intermittently failing.

(In my case it was an intermittent fault of the 'Brake vacuum sensor' - go figure - but replacing the sensor restored the Start/Stop functionality).

I've never really paid much attention; it seems to come on when I test it, so if I ever do want it to work, it should do so. Meanwhile, I'm quite happy that it stays off; saves me switching it off myself.

The Jag and Rover guys do it this way,

How to permanently disable the Eco stop start

How do I disable auto start/stop? - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Rear of your car,
Lift up the tail gate,
Lift out the boot lining ( there are two sections that just clip out )
You will see two battery's
Do not touch the big battery that's located on the left hand side.

Disconnect the earth terminal on the small battery that's located in the rear center ( the battery looks the same size as a pint of milk in a carton )
Cable tie the earth strap out of the way ( keep it away from the positive lead though!
The above procedure should take no longer than 5 mins.

Job done!
No more forgetting to press your Eco button
No warming lights on your dash,
No cutting out at junctions,

My C class coupe has big battery under hood and small the one in boot, will this work on Merc`s.

Since that post I have a Hack which I have tested for over 4 months, my car with the hack (a C Class coupe 2012 petrol) has just past it`s MOT with no issues, the car runs as normal other than you loose brake hold with this hack, the bonus is no stop start, a fully charged battery at all times and no need for an expensive AGM replacement battery.
The hack is simple and takes 5 minutes.
Lift the hood/Bonnet, locate large starter battery, remove plastic cover, note 2 small wires coming from a small box connected to the main thick black negative battery lead, disconnet those 2 small wires at the plug end going into the small box, that`s it done, put battery cover back close hood, if you don`t like just reconnect the 2 small wires.
The hack means the ECU does not know the SOC of the battery and reverts alternator from smart to standard, the voltage from alternator is never more than 14.2 volts, hence no overcharge.
