W124 4Matic - to buy or not to buy - that is the question

Best car i ever had was the W123 230e .In any flavour you can find , even the disel turbo . View attachment 138427 W126 is another nice car .
I have owned two Mercs, a 1965 190D fintail and a 2016 GLC. I loved the Fintail bought fit in Germany in the 1980s when I was stationed there (Army) the GLC cost me more in depreciation than any car I have ever owned!

I really want an estate / wagon / TE what ever the correct term is, I’m happy to wait until the right car comes along.

Only one problem was that the front drivers wing is not a true match with the reast of the car .I preped the wing myself treated it inside .Took the wing to a classic car shop local to me to spray it .And although he had the old wing for a patern colour match , and he still got it wrong. But its growing on me at first it stood out like a sore thumb . Might get it redone one of the days..thats if i still have it by then .3168d4db0430.jpg

I'm no Mercedes expert ....but was the W124 not the first car Mercedes put the 4matic system into. If that's true that alone makes it an interesting car.......one to be restored if you have the skill and time.....but not if you have to pay someone else to do it!!!

As faras i know and if i am right its called the W125 I will find that bit of info i told youa bout ,But it will be Wedneday i am afraid before i can do it ..

And more
Those on the YUK roads i would say only 9 4Matics in total is correct, as it seems there were only around 280 ish ever sold into the UK, there have been a few come up on Ebay but they are very rare and I cannot remember the last time I saw one on the road. Good news is there are quite a few in Europe and the MB shop I use mostly come up trumps with parts

And the repair cost- They(MB), had a winner on their hands with the W124 4Matic but they needed to address their transfer case issue......which was a complete failure to the original owner at 40,000-120,000 miles. A lot of the cars even failed under warranty. MB developed a good 'fix' early on but decided not to cover it. They left it in the dealers' lap on how much to cover the repair. Many dealers left it completely in the lap of the customer to the tune of over $5,000+(late 80's-90's money). That's when they first started showing up at the junkyards. [ From USA forum ]
