W124 Headlight Switch Illumination Bulb

The part number for the bulb is N 000000 001061 Described on EPC as Lighting for Rotary Light Switch Escutcheon. As I have just purchased 5 of these from my Mercedes dealer I can tell you they are 12V 0.4W. They cost £1.23 each. They are noticeably smaller than the 12V 1.2W bulbs. Do not use a higher power bulb as a lot of these bulbs have no space around them to allow three times the heat to dissipate (if you were to use a 1.2W bulb)

Really helpful, thanks! I was thinking that those 1.2w bulbs were too big and wouldn't even fit, I guess.

Now need to make a visit to my MB parts dealer ;)

This thread would surely help us out on what kind of Headlight Switch Illumination Bulb you should have. In this way, I can say that things will really work out well and we can see what kind of parts we should buy or purchased. Great read indeed.

headlight switch

Just realized that the bulb, which illuminates the headlight switch doesn't work :(

It says "12v 0.5w" on it, but I'm having a hard time finding one. Had a look on eBay, but nothing

Halfords? MB or what?

P.S. BIG thank you for this > http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/34067-how-change-backlight-headlight-switch-w124.html

My headlight switch failed. Its not working, maybe its in the wiring. I dont know. Any help? Do i need to replace it?
thanks :dk:

Hi,
Be aware that not all these switches were illuminated, some were some were,nt.
You are correct, the bulb he`s talking about only lights when you pull the knob for the foglights

the switch itself is not illuminated it is the icons that surround the switch, so maybe more than one bulb, because the 'foglamp-on' does illuminate red within the switch, and that wll likely be a separate bulb.

There are 2 bulbs.

One sits behind the knob (fog lights illumination), which you just pull off and the other one (switch illumination) is behind this plastic piece, which holds the switch.

I managed to get the bulbs from my local scrapyard, so easy fix :)

It`s worth checking the fine wire connections at the base of these capless wedge bulbs.
I have `fixed` the non functioning switch illumination on previous 190 and W124 cars by carefully bending the wires away from the glass base to create a decent contact
