W124 - Replace electric aerial with shark fin type?

I need to replace the electric aerial on my 94 W124 and rather than buy a proper Hirschmann I'm toying with the idea of getting one of this type, a shark fin FM aerial.

I need to repair a dent in the rear panel where the current aerial is fitted anyway so filling the existing hole won't add much to the job, I hope!

Is this a practical proposition, or likely to fail as I suspect?

I did it and regret it.

I bought a Hirschman roof aerial and fitted it forward of the sunroof.

The sharks fin was carp.

It was easy to fit by just removing the interior light, and running the wire behind the seal to the A pillar trim.

Took a bit of work to centralise the position of the hole on the roof though.
