W163 - Retrofit opening rear quarterlights ?

Is it really "almost impossible", as I have read on here somewhere, to retrofit opening rear quarter lights to an ML W163 ?

My first choice would be getting a tilt/slide sunroof fitted but I can't find anyone who has had that done successfully either.

Any help from anyone who has actually completed either project, as opposed to opinions as to whether or not they are worthwhile/desirable from those who haven't , would be much appreciated.

Ow okay I was just wondering as I own a ML163. Are you referring to the rear quarter windows that electrically pop out?

Yep that's exactly it - does your car have them and if so, assuming that you don't want to give them to me, does a retrofit look like a possible runner to you ?

Yes my vehicle does have them, they come part of the Family Pack. I think it is unlikely that you could retrofit them, well unless you want to spend a lot of money then it may be possible. New glass, mechanism's, panels, new centre console trim, swtiches, looms and then the labour involved.

Its best to get an ML with the Family Pack, which ML do you have?

The ML55 had these as standard without the family pack. They can be retrofitted but as already said, its costly and very time consuming.

Lucky you ;-) I have just acquired an ML270 Inspiration 5 seater witout a sunroof and am trying to work out whether it would be more cost effective to retrofit opening rear quarterlights or a sunroof. Sounds like it may well be the latter, but before I proceed, it would have been nice to hear from someone who had already had it done.
