W210 E55 paddle shift mod.

Shude, I have the original PDF but am unsure if I would be allowed to publicly post it here as it is not my property or written by myself. It can be found on the following forums

I don't think Chris (the guy that wrote it ) would mind as he posted it on the crossfire forum for people to see.
If anybody wants to do this mod then I will certainly help if anyone needs it.
The first hole cutting in the wheel is the worse whereas the second took me about a third of the time.
The paddle part# is A1712670046 and they are £113 on the Inchape site, I got mine for £100 from a local dealer because I know someone in the parts.
You just make a cardboard template for the paddle and ballpoint pen marks the wheel nicely, then a new stanley blade to cut the foam smaller than the marked area first.
A hole has to be drilled through the aluminium and countersunk on the outside so the paddle will fit flush.
The paddles have a lip which covers the edge of the hole and makes it look neat and tidy.
I took photos as I was doing it.

Edit:
Also I haven't seen that PDF so I don't know if it just covers non multifunction steering wheels or if he included the radio transmitter/ receiver part?

It only covers the "tip" boxes...therefore the multi-function steering also.

That's not what I meant sorry, originally the mod was done on an R170 which didn't have the radio controls etc on the steering wheel. So it is done differently than the way I had to do it, the original used the horn wire with a box he made to change the resistance of the current flowing down it, so the horn wire would have 3 signals.....1 for the horn, 1 for change down and 1 for change up.
With the multifunction wheel the "one" wire already carries loads of signals for all the switches, so I have a transmitter behind the airbag that the paddles control which a receiver then picks up and provides the signal to the shifter .

Hi Shaun, where did you source the transmitter/receiver from? Thanks, Mel.

You take the transmitter apart and find the correct contact on the buttons, there are 4 on each.
I wired the receiver to a battery and used a multimeter, to find the ones I needed.
One will make the light on the remote come on and one will send the signal without the light, you can do it so both happens but you don't need the light.
I decided to leave the battery in the transmitter as opposed to hard wiring it because it's easier and the battery will last a long time and is only 10 minutes to change. The batteries in key fobs last for ages.
Here are some pics of how I installed the transmitter.

.....One wire goes to the "up" paddle and the other to the "down", the power wire goes to the both of the remaining paddle wires.

Hi, I wrote the instructions ... and I would post them here ... but the file is too big.

If anyone wants a copy, PM me an email address and I'll send it,

Chris

Hi Chris,
Well done regarding the mod, an excellent modification, would dearly like to fit it to my C43/55 but I am unable to PM you as you need 30+ posts before PM facilities are enabled. :dk:

Epic thread resurrection I know.

Does anyone have a copy of the instructions to carry out this mod?

Cheers
Abdul

I would defiantly be interested in this MOD considering i have just retrofitted an E55 Wheel to my W211.

Does anyone know if these kits can still be purchased?

Lets see if this can be resurrected!

This is not an actual kit. The details of parts used are in this Thread and the writer of the original DIY has also posted in this Thread too. The AMG Paddles can be bought from MB Dealership or eBay. Then you need to wire the transmitter and receiver to send a signal between steering wheel and gear selector. The gear selector unit also needs to be opened up and modified as the receiver needs to be soldered to the touch shift points inside. HTH

Ok? I found something online that was in a kit form! maybe i am confusing myself, as i have been researching this topic for the past few days, with a mixed bag of ways it can be done being found!

Ok thanks for the clarifications on parts and wiring mercedescl500, my list of parts is starting to form!
