w211 270cdi
Hi everyone , its my first post.
6 months ago i bought my w211 270 cdi on 52 plate (its one of the firts ever made i think)
Any way , got limp mode problem. Done diagnostic (not Star machine) it came up with Overboosting code.
Bloke in the garage showed me some diagram with 2 lines on screen (something to do with air going in the engine) and one of them lines was all over the place.
There is a loud whooshing noise coming from turbo or somewere around it.
Its not possible to say when it goes in to limp mode. but with egr unpluged it doesnt do it so offten.
Somethimes when i put foot down it takes longer for turbo to kick in , somethimes its instant.
And last verry strange thing , that there is no black smoke at ALL ! I know i shouldnt cry about that , but car has done 160000 miles. so maybe cats are blocked ?? oww when looking at turbo noticed that its was garret or something like that , so does it mean that its been changed? thank you !

Check all air intake & boost hoses and intercooler for splits, also check all hoses are secure in there fixings.most common is split hose.

Also check for soot around engine bay by turbo or exhaust car fixing clamps, as that's a sign if a blocked exhaust

thanks for replay.
its verry difficult to see them hoses at the bottom , maybe neet to take bumper off.
How do you check intercooler for splits ?

You can see them if you raise car & remove undertrays. Boer removal only required if you need to change inter cooler.
Look for sign of oil around the hoses and inter cooler.

Update! Started some work on it. Had it de cat. New egr. And no resault .... :( Now diagnostics say its got 2346-2 code. So its got air flow to large!!! Next week getting my turbo reconditioned hope it helps. And turbo noise got a lot worse , sounds like police siren now... Any sugestions would be great. Ow yes , intercooler and pipes been checked . And there is alot of oil in them.

Can't be sure for a diesel Mercedes, but on a petrol Saab, a significant amount of oil in the intercooler and pipes is a sign of a turbo on the way out. I'd wait until your recon turbo is fitted, and see if that cures the problem. It would be a good idea to have the intercooler and lines flushed out as well, just to be on the safe side.

I realy hope u right. Thanks for replay. Only other thing i can think of is inlet manifold. Or just faulty turbo actuator.

Got turbo rebuilt with garret kit , oil and filters changed and guea what??? Turbos is just as loud and it still goes into limp mode sometimes.

Have you checked the exhaust system isn't blocked ?

Its been decat. Unless back boxes are blocked. But dont think so. Next strp os to clean inlet manifold cause its really full of gunk... Any way Code says air mas to large.

Would the code be triggered by too much air pressure at the map sensor due to blocked rear boxes ?

This happened to me on my drive home tonight. However no black smoke (that I could see anywho). Going up a steepish bank wouldn't go past 2k revs. Certainly limped the further 2 miles home. Now its been leaking something lately as I asked for advise in another thread. However popped the engine covers off and noticed black pitting around the Mercedes strip cover however dark it was it was dry.

Just took it around the block and up hill and it was fine. Went 3k revs plus.

Can I ask when people mean wooshing noise is it like a scrapping noise from the rear when floored?

The wooshing is air escaping from the boost charge pressure system exhaust clamp joints inlet manifold etc etc
